Fort Worth Star-Telegram hits the gutter -- latest S-T publication has raunchy article on "Three people we want to eff this week"

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram went gutter-level today in the roll out of its new entertainment publication with an article entitled, "Three people we want to eff this week."

From comments:
Did Jim Witt okay that?!? Wow. I'm embarrassed for everyone. What happened to standards? Move over, National Inquirer, make room for the Star-Telegram's pathetic attempt at being cool.

I apologize, Mr. Amon G. Carter, for what is happening.
More:
Has Paris Hilton become the editor of this rag? No wait, it's Christopher Kelley. A mind is a terrible thing to waste, Chris.
We'll see if advertisers want to be associated with a publication like this. Remember, this is the publication that Gary Wortel claimed would bring new hope to the Star Telegram.

Welcome to what they put out in Kansas City. Now you know why the Star is consider such a vile rag. Come to think of it, we sent you another gutter snipe in Regent Ducas. Sorry about that. We really are.

Scratching head?

I guess suicide by publication is the way want to go.

Yep, what was it the Judge called them when banning them from the court room? "You're not a media outlet, you're a bunch of bottom feeding gutter dwellers."

Paris Hilton runs several successful businesses. She is doing better than McClatchy and will likely be around a lot longer.

Maybe she should replace Gary Pruitt. At least she is easier to look at.

I want to know where the real news is. A police officer was just killed in Bridgeport, the main story on the website, something about scary bunny rabbits at Easter. Give us the news we want! People in Bridgeport get your paper too ya know, it is one thing not to report about our sports, but we are talking about the death of a police officer. Get with it!!!

The fact of the matter is that there are several other adult/entertainment styled publications already in town, well established publications in Dallas and Fort Worth both. In this day and age of shrinking ad budgets and a stumbling economy, this sucker was doomed from inception. If I was one of their target advertisers, why would I bother to support it with my ad budget dollars? The existing products have stable distribution and solid numbers.

So then, are we supposed to believe that people will follow this printed product to the website and subsequently to the core product? It's clear they don't care about offending the elders or conservatives within the community (eff 'em if they can't take a joke!), but the publisher has so firmly attached himself to this thing that there is no way to truly divorce it from the core product. The sheer arrogance displayed in pushing this kind of crap out from the same desks that produce the community newspaper is far beyond anything that Fort Worth is likely to tolerate. But it's typical of Wortel, you can't tell the guy anything.

Steer the ship through the icebergs if you must to survive, but why in the hell would you run into them intentionally?

When total shmucks try to be way cool, this is what you get. Some person in their fifties probably wrote this vulgarity while younger writers rolled their eyes

There are no younger reporters left. Might want to change the name to the Geezer-Gazette.

I guess anyone over 50 should be in a rest home. I worked in production and was my postion was eliminated after 20 years. I was a maint. supervisor at night. And I get calls from the younger generation that never worked nights wanting to know how to get the press up and running. And no I don't answer my cell anymore at night it's not my problem or job anymore. Just because your over 50don't put us in a home yet

Very nice quote!

I've got to admire their honesty on that list. The third one being they want to eff anyone reading it, and from what I've seen on their website, they are. It shouldn't last a year.

Almost as bad as Da Fo Wo, but at least they tried to sell that junk with sex appeal. Tried being the keyword.

At least copy editors are now willing to write headlines that they would've loved to write a few years ago. I guess the attitudes of copy editors, slots and chiefs is "What the hell? Might as well write what I want before I get laid off!"

The Belo-owned Dallas competitor also is hitting bottom this week with a feature on a Dallasite adult porn star for its cover for the entertainment rag...expect this as the future (and current state) of journalism...at least not as hypocritical as the DMN editor who called the local alternative week a sexually oriented alternative weekly then published the audlt p;orn star story...integrity in journlaism at its best
