No Pulitzer for four-part McClatchy series which depicted troops at Guantanamo as torturers and abusers

McClatchy had been hoping for a Pulitzer for the 4-part series by Tom Lasseter and Matthew Schofield which depicted troops at Guantanamo as torturers and abusers. It didn't happen: in results announced today, the NYT won the International Reporting category for reports on Afghanistan and Pakistan. Miami Herald photographer Patrick Farrell won a prize for breaking news photography.

UPDATE: Patrick Farrell's photos of Haiti after Hurricane Ike are amazing; you can see them at the Miami Herald's web site here.

The Pulitzers have as much credibility as the Oscars. No one believes the best is represented, and every year more and more people yawn at the news. Phony awards handed around to phony journalists. Oh yeah, something to brag about to other slackers. The Sacbee article was a Bush hit job for the whackjobs. I even read as much as I could without retching, which was paragraph two. Win a prize? They should be ashamed of themselves. I can't wait to read their article about Obama's order to shoot three black boys in the head! It's coming any day now, any day.

Didn't MNI win a pulitzer for their five-part series on lokeman and drunk driving on three wheels?

Oh, I see. In was a Pull-The-Woolitzer.

Oh I think MNI will shortly be getting their prize, for DNC tea-bagging and train-pulling with their election coverage, but in bankruptcy court

Only the truly delusional would believe there is any importance in winning a trumped-up journalism award. It is like the liberal media still denying the biasness of their reporting. Who really cares which liar wins which phony prize. Maybe the Sacbee can be mollified with a plastic plaque for the wall. It could hold a huge arrow pointing to the exit. At least that might help some of the poor misguided souls lost in the wilderness get the hell out of there.

I think the Pitch deserves an award for the Lokeman videos. That was reporting you could verify with your own eyes. No lying, no biasness, just straight forward video reporting. The new media is coming, and the old dinosaurs will be extinct, again.

Let's see, two of those awards were for the coverage of the downfall of Democratic politicians, Kwame Kilpatrick and Eliot Spitzer. In the Kilpatrick case, the Detroit Free Press actually did the legwork to take him down. Hopefully the rightwing press, if one ever arises, can do something just as thorough for any kind of politician.

While most of y'all are slinging mud at the Pulitzers, out of envy, probably, look at what Patrick Farrell photographed in Haiti and THEN say this is a trumped-up award for the delusional.

8:56 PM No one but yourselves envy you or a Pulitzer. Most people yawn and the rest don't even know that you all give yourselves trumped up awards to give yourselves some phony credibility.

That is what you have done to your profession.

I have to laugh at the NYT Pulitzers that were won for reporting on Elliot Spritzer’s sexual habits. What a hoot, another dishonest Democrat is kicked out of office, big news, yes indeed. The NYT deserved some sort of award for writing entire articles without mentioning Spritzer, or the Mayor of Detroit were both Democrats. The article exposing Chris Dodd is a sure win for next year. Chris Dodd belongs to which political party? I can’t recall seeing (D) beside his name very often. Get real, the corrupt media winning prizes is reason enough to cancel any newspaper subscription.

@ Stuff Journalists Like -
Even they admit the awards are pointless.
---
“We make fun of all the [self-indulgent and pointless press awards] we constantly bestow upon each other, but if we don't get any ourselves, we quietly mope for weeks. And while we spend nearly every waking hour reporting on what others are up to, deep down we'd all prefer to talk about ourselves and our fellow journalists."

Surely you jest, who would envy any award won for dishonest reporting? Corrupt journalists collecting fake trophies is not a prize to envy. The NYT is in dire straits, and the awards are a last ditch effort to save them. If you don’t even see that corruption of the Pulitzers by politics, then you are hopeless. You deserve unemployment for ignorance.

Who cares about Pulitzers these days? They're sooo yesterday.
