Obama appointee says federal government should bail out newspapers

A former journalist -- and current Obama Pentagon adviser -- has called on the federal government to bail out newspapers.

Influential Los Angeles Times columnist Rosa Brooks has hung up her journalistic hat and joined the Obama administration, but not before penning a public proposal calling for some radical ideas to help bail out the failing news industry.

Brooks, who has taken up a post as an adviser at the Pentagon, advocated upping "direct government support for public media" and creating licenses to govern news operations.

"Years of foolish policies have left us with a choice: We can bail out journalism, using tax dollars and granting licenses in ways that encourage robust and independent reporting and commentary, or we can watch, wringing our hands, as more and more top journalists are laid off," she wrote in her parting column on April 9.

Brooks said this would help rescue the industry from a "death spiral" and left the government unaccountable to the journalists who must keep it honest. "[I] can't imagine anything more dangerous than a society in which the news industry has more or less collapsed," she wrote.

Gateway Pundit channels the best line of the day:

"They will be selling the 'Obama burger' — you pay for one and they cut it in half and give the rest to the guy behind you for free!!"

Obama probably won’t hear about it, since word is the White House isn’t even aware of the Tea Party Movement.

Throw the bums out!

“President Obama Ordered the Killing of Three Black Muslim Kids.”

He wanted the credit for rescuing Captain Phillips. He never misses a photo op.

He ordered the killing of Black Muslim Kids!
Where is the media outrage? Can you even imagine the headlines if President Bush killed children, yes a beloved child.

Saving media that selects the news will not fly now that thinking people see how corrupt they have become.

@ E & P
“A wise warning about the pitfalls of going online-only. (Yelvington.com) Let us remind you that 4% of adults visited a newspaper Web site only in the span of a week in the U.S.”

----
Why would anyone go online to read news you know is untruthful? The leftist media can spin the decline in newspapers all they want, but it will not change the fact that people don't trust them.

You can't report on x or y unless you want to loose your bailout money or get the editor fired.....

or vise versa.

MORNING GOOD NEWS, Enjoy MNI

News Journal Corp. hires bankruptcy lawyer

A lawyer representing The News-Journal Corp. says the newspaper company might consider bankruptcy to keep the publication in operation.

The company has hired a lawyer to look into reorganizing its debt as a way to break away from minority partner Cox Enterprises.

Bruce A. Hanna, who represents the newspaper, told a federal judge Thursday that the strategy could "potentially allow The News-Journal to continue operating, thereby saving several hundred jobs."

Imagine that. A Soros employee thinking that newspapers should be government approved and financed I am sure.

Now she is going to go spy on the DOD.

I'm so far left that I'm off the map, but I don't think bailing out papers is even remotely the right thing to do. Let the papers run their capitalistic course.

7:05 AM Yeah, I know what you mean. That really would amount to full disclosure for you all.

Don't count it out though. The writing was on the wall when the French pass their laws about only officially authorized newspaper employees being able to legally take a picture of a crime.

Then of course there was

AFP Newswire: French Government
BBC - British Government
CDC - Canadian Government
ABC - Australian Government

The list goes on and on. It is inevitable and absolutely necessary to the installation of Global Rule.

Wow. I am stunned that anyone would serious suggest bailing out the newspaper industry and granting licenses.

There will always be a "news" industry. There is simply no need for it to be on paper.

These dinosaurs need to just go away and allow the new form of media rise from the ashes.
