McClatchy is looking for a full time account executive for Ink Magazine, the KC Star's publication for urban professionals in their 20s and 30s.
For what it's worth, blogger Tony Botello says INK is the absolute worst publication in Kansas City. You can see the INK web site here. INK is also on MySpace (here) -- even though most people in their 20s left MySpace for FaceBook when they got out of high school.
More details on the exciting job opportunity here.

Let's see if it lasts longer than the Charlotte Observer's "Eye" magazine. "Eye" was a free weekly tabloid that lasted for one year before turning into a glossy monthly magazine that lasted for exactly ONE issue before folding. You can still see the remnants of "Eye" on the Charlotte.com web site... they've not been updated since last November, but they've not been removed, either.
Here is the key information:
Full-Time Employee Relocation Covered: No
More than one bus transfer ought to make anyone think long and hard about this job.
LOL, I love at the end where it shows what McClatchy "offers". Hahaha, basically nothing! A salary and health insurance. Big deal! Burger King offers more than that. Funny they don't mention everything they offer: stress, ulcers, migraines, job instability, etc.
Re: Full-Time Employee Relocation Covered: No
Some of the most bitter remarks from fired McClatchy employees comes from people that moved for a new job, and were laid off in a few months. I am not believing management didn’t know these applicants were incurring relocation expenses for a very shaky position. Shame on McClatchy, scum that they have become.
Hmmm, odd. When we were told to sell Eye and Indulge at the Observer/Disturber, they compared those two pubs to Ink and told us it was "so successful" and that Ink was a "fantastic money-making product". So we had to live up to all the hype trying to sell Eye and Indulge and both FLOPPED. So I see that they're still up to their old tricks, trying to tell us how "great" Ink is.....I'm not fooled....
Unfortunately it is profitable so there is no reason to get rid of it.
They recently lost a sales person (I don't know why) but I would assume since they are making money that is why they get to fill the position.
Comparing a "rag" in one location to another "rag" across the country is not the same. The KC area has not been hit nearly as hard as the rest of the country from this depression (yes I said depression).
I would fully expect them to fold up shop if they were losing money...but they aren't, so they get a pass.
Maybe INK has a better sales staff or there are more gullible businesses in Kansas City.
KC is trying frantically to get their new entertainment/tourist area up and running. I wouldn’t doubt the funds for the advertising rag comes from the bloated financing for the flop. Start counting the restaurants that are closing, and all the conventions that are no longer coming to town. We got trouble, right here in River City.
ink is actually kicking the shit out of the pitch, which is the new times/village voice freebie in the k.c. market.
and the star prints them both. the star also picked up the river times from st louis.
top ten signs that your media blog, company, etc. is going under.
#7. you have resorted to quoting tony botello of "tony's kansas city" blog.
you guys on mcclatchy watch may be able to b.s. everyone not from k.c. by using tony quotes, but not the folks who live there.
but then again, maybe he's the bubba to your forrest.
hilarious.
