Opportunity for reader posts

I have decided to give readers an opportunity to submit posts for publication on McClatchy Watch.

I'm looking for short pieces -- 6 to 10 paragraphs -- that would be interesting to my readers. Suggested topics: issues at individual McClatchy papers, developments in the newspaper industry, bias, etc.

McClatchy employees are welcome to submit items. Authors can be anonymous on the blog (but I will need to know author's names for my purposes).

The pay? Nothing.

Anything submitted will be reviewed by the McClatchy Watch Editorial Review Team (me).

Only interesting posts will be published. (If I get submissions that I think are too boring or wouldn't work for some reason, I'll send them back.)

This will be a trial... if I get enough material, I might run reader posts once a week, maybe more.

And if nobody sends anything in, never mind.

If questions, email me.

“No conversation about newspapers’ dismal present is complete without some anguished mention of how democracy will go off the rails unless the press is there to set it straight.”

Does anyone still think newspapers are democracy’s watchdog? Ha! What an absolute crock. They are the cheerleaders of derailed democracy.

Irish student hoaxes world's media with fake quote (Modern Journalism is Crap)

When Dublin university student Shane Fitzgerald posted a poetic but phony quote on Wikipedia, he said he was testing how our globalized, increasingly Internet-dependent media was upholding accuracy and accountability in an age of instant news.

His report card: Wikipedia passed. Journalism flunked.

What passes for journalism these days is laughable.

Young kids with no knowledge or background in history or politics or the arts or economics or even the curiousity to do anything another than "google" a subject.
Pathetic.

And this kid proved it.

Cynical bastard (or bitch, don't want to be sexist).

However, don't want to disappoint my adoring entourage of trolls.

What to write about? Lewis Diuguid's utter stupidity? Barb Shelly's utter corruption? Miriam Pepper's blatant racism and reverse discrimination? Derek Donovan's missing blogs? Yael Abouhalkah's prostitution of his credibility trying to brown nose Miriam?

Topics for weeks on end and they add to the list daily. Paradise, paradise, paradise.

Oh, please. Do go on at angry length!

Gotcha, will do. Tell mom to call all your "uncles" because you're going to be a reading fool. Well, a fool.

Deleted a post because it was too long... please, no posting more than 2 or 3 paragraphs. If you include links, readers can check out the full article.

This is the guy who rails against personal attacks?

Ahh, but there will be sound and rational arguments to back up those statements of fact. A case will be made and you can come whine and snivel to your hearts content. I'm hoping to get a picture of the gleam that you see bouncing off the back of Lewis' skull when you look in his eyes.

I think John has lost it.

I swear I used to partially follow what he said, however, now it seems to be full of gibberish.

Can we get a med check in edwardsville, ks please?

I'm feeling rather giddy today.
