This blog is mainly about the spectacular train wreck at The Sacramento Bee and its parent company, the McClatchy Company. But I also post about current events, the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, politics, anything else that grabs my attention. Take a look around this blog, hope you enjoy it.

The Carolina Hurricanes are playing in the Stanley Cup playoffs. I wonder who is sitting in the N&O suite when the games come to Raleigh? Has anyone heard if this benefit is being cut out soon?
...Les spent his life in the McClatchy kitchen making crap samdwiches for the masses. Now that they don't sell and he's been let go he's at his wit's end ( a very short journey ). ..His posts are exactly why the Bee is busted and will never be fixed. So too are all the liberal crap sandwich newspapers with their toiling Les's. ..Go a-way, Les. Find a job that fit's your meager talents. Blogging isn't that job. You beclown yourself with every keystroke.
The News & Observer announced a single-copy price increase effective Monday, May 4. Going to $.75 Mon - Sat and $2.00 Sundays. I'm not sure if this has been posted here previously, but the only sign I've seen of it was a small notice in the corner of page A-2.
Buffett Sees ‘Unending Losses’ for Many Newspapers
OMAHA, Neb. — Warren Buffett has long held himself out as a newspaper man. As a child, one of his first jobs was delivering newspapers. An Omaha newspaper Berkshire owned, Sun Newspapers, won a Pulitzer Prize in 1973 based in part on a tip Mr. Buffett provided. One of Berkshire’s biggest investments in the 1970s was the Buffalo News, which it still owns.
Buffett toured the exhibit floor prior to the annual Berkshire Hathaway shareholders meeting But his view on the future of the newspaper industry is dismal. “For most newspapers in the United states, we would not buy them at any price,” he said in response to a question about whether he would consider investing in newspapers. “They have the possibility of going to just unending losses.”
The problem, he said, is that newspapers were once essential to the American public. As long as newspapers were essential to readers, they were essential to advertisers, But news is available in many other venues, such as the Internet, which means a dramatic drop in advertising revenue.
Berkshire also has a substantial investment in the Washington Post Co. He said the company has a solid cable business, a good reason to hold onto it, but its newspaper business is in trouble.
Jen: Dow Jones introduced a nifty new indicator that measures 15 major newspapers in the U.S. to gauge economic conditions. The Economic Sentiment Indicator (ESI) is based on a scale of 0 to 100. In April it edged up to 27.6 from 26.3 in March (up is good). Dow Jones back-tested the indicator all the way to 1990. Now, what happens if fewer reporters cover the economic crisis due to the newspaper crisis causing cuts to staff and business pages?
White House Corros are DOA? The entire media is being forced to face the need to cut back expenses, and there is a debate brewing about whether news organizations should get rid of White House Correspondents. The pre-set questions, and teleprompter answers, are a sorry excuse for news. The news is phony and biased, the so-called journalists are hacks, and fewer people watch or read the canned news everyday. Get rid of these hacks? What took them so long? Once basic trust in a product is gone, it’s not coming back. All these models and plans are useless for tainted goods. Print newspapers, and network news programs are over, move on.
Now, what happens if fewer reporters cover the economic crisis due to the newspaper crisis causing cuts to staff and business pages? =========
It doesn't matter what happens. It is a useless indicator of anything in the first place. One would have to assume that each paper was not spiking stories or manipulating their coverage to suit their agenda.
We already know they do this regularly, so newspaper coverage has no value as to the condition of the economy at any given time.
This is a worthless tool that only one who was several months behind the curve could ever find any use for.

Liberal!!! Troll!!! Marxist!!! Newspapers must die!!! Misspelled, ill-informed crap is our future!!! Blah blah!!! Teabag!!! Altevogt and Lokeman ... twins separated at botched 3rd-term abortion??? Blah blah!
(No offense to 6:47. Seriously. I'm just trying to adhere to the general theme of off-topic, over-the-top ranting early in the thread.)
P.S. -- If I REALLY wanted to make it clear that I was a total idiot, I would close this post with something like "Bwahahahaha!"
Trolls are delicious. Just add some ground-up cloves ... they're a little gamey.
It looks like our troll needs attention this morning.

6:47 -- Orage and his guests will be living the high life at the hockey game, food and drinks gratis.
Although 7:12, the lib troll, "stole" many of my pearls, I must admit finding his post a bit humorous.
It looks like John needs attention this morning.
Dave D has the brains of a "Night of the Living Dead" victim. If I were Les, I would have SIGNED MY NAME "Les" -- as he always does.
I'm just someone else who knows that some of you folks aren't nearly as smart as you think you are. Does that make me a troll?
"YOU DON'T CONTROL THE CONVERSATION!!!"
Bwahahahahahahahahahaha .... duh.

And buffett is also a big lib supporter. So if even he doesn't buy into newspapers, I wonder what tiller-boy would say?
