A rooftop fire forced evacuation of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and delayed production of Tuesday's editions.
The fire broke out about 8 p.m. Monday at the newspaper's downtown Fort Worth headquarters, forcing about 30 employees to leave their desks. Managing Editor Lois Norder says delivery delays Tuesday are possible.
Fire Lt. Kent Worley says the fire broke out in the elevator housing on the roof. He says the fire was confined to the housing, but smoke and water from firefighters hoses spilled down the shaft into the basement and lower floors.
Reporters and editors returned to the newsroom about 10 a.m. to the smell of smoke.
Worley says the fire apparently began in the wiring of the elevator housing. Damage was limited mostly to the flooded subbasement.

What does any of this have to do with the actual fire at the S-T? I vas dere, Charlie. We spent an hour in the parking lot (which means technically we were trespassing, since the lot was sold to the Fort Worth Club), taking cell phone pictures and watching firefighters scurry. Our elevators have to be at least 50 yrs. old; that's what caught fire, an elevator motor or wiring. Incidentally, the edition was only 8 or so mins. late despite an hour-plus delay, so there IS some professionalism left in this newsroom, contrary to reports.

The hell with all of the other departments that busted ass to get the paper out the door.
OK, OK, I should have said "professionalism left in this NEWSPAPER." My bad. A lot of folks worked hard to get it done.
should of let it burn..... insurance has to mean more to mcclatchy than the Star.
