-Wash. gov OKs tax cut for newspapers-
OLYMPIA, Wash. — Seattle Times
Gov. Chris Gregoire has approved a tax break for the state's troubled newspaper industry.
The new law gives newspaper printers and publishers a 40 percent cut in the state's main business tax. The discounted rate mirrors breaks given in years past to the Boeing Co. and the timber industry.

There are nearly 100 comments, most against the leftist takeover of Washington state, and the majority speak to newspaper bias.
Where were the watchdogs when the Democrats demanded three vote counts, and used unprotected ballots to finally elect Gregoire?
Comment:
“Trust a bottom feeder like Gregoire who owes her position to judges instead of voters to propose subsidies to the media that works nights trying to make monsters like her acceptable to the public.”

What is happening to my rally? My stock is going down, down, down! Oh why did I listen to that McClatchy guy and buy at .87? I put my whole buyout in that stock. It's not fare.

2 things

What person on here said to buy MNI? (I.e. where is the comment)

If you really did (I am assuming you are just a sarcastic a$$), then you really need to look into taking an investing class

The guy that said there was a rally going on and everyone was buying McClatchy because they were going to make their minimum requirement. Then he went on calling another guy a liar that said it was short sellers doing something to make it look like it was higher.

Hmmmm...so a rally going on tells you to go buy some?

I was expecting you to show something like, "MNI is rallying, better get in now while it is low, etc". That to me is telling you to buy.

I went back and reread what they said and I can find no mention of a "buy command".

And unless you are an actual insider, trusting anything said on this site should be with a grain of salt. For instance the whole "scandal" of Ariel dumping their stock, etc.

“Ariel Investments recently increased their investment in Gannet so now they own more than 12% of the outstanding common. President Obama's best friend runs Ariel. Obama had his pre-inaugural office in Ariel owned office space. The Ariel-Obama-Gannett newspaper tie in is interesting. Some reporter should find out why Ariel doubled down on Gannett. Do they know something?”

Scandal was perhaps the wrong choice of words, maybe shoddy reporting by McClatchy Watch and Fritz (apparently not Jen).

When McClatchy watch makes a mistake (like the Ariel stock dump) they fess up and admit the error. When the Bee makes a substantial mistake they just blame the readers. The stock dumping error RAISED the credibility of this blog, not the other way around.

When did an opinion on a stock dump become a scandal? There are differing opinions on investment motives all the time. I am not sure the opinion was in error for the dump involved, it just did not calculate all the shares owned. We have experts who can clear this up if they are onboard today.

Easily. It is not an opinion, there was indeed a stock dump. Ariel did unload a huge number of shares. Exactly how many remains to be seen.

Ariel's announced unloading of MNI coincided within days of a major dump of over 16 million shares over a period of two days. Between 6 and 7 million of those shares were part of the Ariel Fund leaving a balance of 9 or 10 million shares yet unaccounted for.

Since institutional investors have an unreasonable amount of time for filing such events, without further clarification from Ariel themselves we'll just have to wait and see what other amendments that they file.

NEWSFLASH: This just in from the San Fransissy Gate production floor. All production employees have been informed that they are to be terminated at the end of the month. The Chronicle is going under.

No word on if they will become a gay, underground, alternative, on line, stink pot, but as a newspaper they will cease to exist.
