Chart of the day

I meant to post this earlier but things slipped away from me. This charts explains why newspaper ad revenue has collapsed.

NYT editor: We had to keep mum on Afghan abduction

NEW YORK (AP) - Deciding not to report initially on reporter David Rohde's capture by the Taliban for seven months was "an agonizing position that we revisited over and over again," New York Times executive editor Bill Keller said Sunday.

. . . the Times did not reveal his abductors.

Keller told CNN: "The more you talk about who did what ... the more you're writing a playbook for the next kidnapping."

But it's fine to leak government secrets that put soldier’s lives at risk.

But let one of their own be in danger and all of a sudden they are concerned about secrecy.

Just disregard Craigslist revenue, for newspapers to loose 75% of their revenue, their model is clearly unsustainable. They are all toast.

Bet it's far less than the entire staff of MNI corporate.

Well, the answer is simple. McClatchy should advertise on Craigslist.

Anon 8:45 Yes, and there in lies much of the issue. Scale, they do so much more, albeit only advertising, with so much less.

No unions, committed people, but with an express, true helping communities communicate type of purpose. Further, who cares what their political bend is, as it’s not really relevant.

Moreover, Craigslist has no multiple layers of union hacks, delivery trucks, printing presses, or phony Marxist pseudo elitist “journalists.”

Also, recall the obituary thread a few days back. Craigslist should participate in this arena, and all legal notices arenas

Because on all levels Craigslist kicks the heck out of traditional paper advertising, let the idiots at McClatchy yell “truth to power” all they want, all the way down their flawed business model toilet.

...8:45, Craigslist shows twenty bio's on their company roster list. That may be all they employ, and it includes Craig, too. Most look like they were rounded up down at the skateboard park, but they are unknown to have pushed their agenda into anybodies living room lately. Are they arrogant, condescending, elitest Adam Henry's ? Nobody knows, but we do know that the McClatchy mafia is all those things, as well as whining, sniveling malcontent's. Now that we can get our news without that Socialist scum, anytime, anywhere, why would we put up with those paperpusher pukes ?

Melanie is busy protecting her incompetent newspaper management staff from upcoming Sac Bee layoffs. The online side is the only segment capable of creative thought and planning. When will she figure this out?

Melanie, our little ‘Silly Bee’, is so busy, so very busy spiking layoff stories. Rumor has it, that not only is the A/C on rolling blackout, the electricity is rationed in the dishonest guise of “Going Green’.
Dark days at the SucBee, and no one really cares. Sad that-

We knew Craigslist was going to wipe us up before 09/11...Managments answer to these increasing competition? Lets raise rates!

I imagine it was similar to the Direct TV television ads showing cable company execs as morons.

We'll just continue to raise rates and drive everyone to Craigslist as fast as we can!

Raising rates in a down economy? It used to be only third world countries did that.

But now that McClatchy got their wish via the election, they too are doing their part to turn us into, their broad vision of, being a third world country.

Craigslist revenue rise is in the millions and the revenue loss of newspapers is in the billions. The problems of the dead tree media are much more serious than Craig's List. As newspapers lost credibility with their readers, advertisers no longer wish to be associated with the brand. MNI seems to have one of the biggest problems in a market filled with problems.
