Unpaid furloughs hit the Wichita Eagle (updated)

One-week, unpaid furloughs are being implemented in Wichita. (Employees must schedule a week off before the end of September.)

Furloughs and layoffs were announced at the Bellingham Herald Monday afternoon.

UPDATE #2: Latest developments at the Miami Herald:

Miami started with furloughs in April. Along with 5% (under 50K) and 10% (50K plus) pay reductions, 1 week furlough for all full-timers is said to be saving 100 jobs.

UPDATE #3: Publisher tells employees at The Herald to get prepared for furloughs.

Were these previously mentioned in the last round of cuts?

I.e. we are losing x people, taking y salary cuts, and reserve the right to do furloughs later?

Anything about future unpaid furloughs and more layoffs at the Anchorage Daily News? Haven't heard a sqweek since corporate was here...

Rumor is that furloughs will be announced in Tacoma at the end of the month.
