He might be a race-baiter, but it turns out Whitlock is also a serial adverb abuser -- at least according to recent research.
Over at The Plog, David Martin noticed Whitlock was using a lot of adverbs, and decided to count them. In Whitlock's last 6 columns, Martin counted the adverbs and came up with 43.
Here they are, in alphabetical order:
Actually; Arguably; Basically; Collectively; Completely; Equally; Eventually; Exactly; Extremely; Fairly; Financially; Friendly; Fully; Generally; Highly; Honestly; Inappropriately; Initially; Justifiably; Likely; Nearly; Numbingly; Particularly; Pathetically; Politely; Poorly; Potentially; Previously; Primarily; Probably; Properly; Really; Regularly; Reluctantly; Secretly; Seriously; Significantly; Simply; Spontaneously; Truly; Ultimately; Unknowingly; Vastly.
Really, truly great work.

So what?
hahaha..."Whitlock loves him some adverbs"
He love him some cheese burgers and white wemens too.
The interesting part is that jason is a major part of what The Star considers its future plans.
He do luv those affirmative action verbs huh?
So does his boss tell him how well he’s doing, then pukes in the privacy of his office afterwards (normal).
Or does he tell him how well he’s doing, and then actually believes it? (liberal sociopath)
and they all end in "Y"
exactly!
So what"
It sounds like Porkchop keeps these words written on his wrist at the ready, to me. Actually, maybe on this thumb.
"Whitlock is in the Star's future plans?"
Why not? Zee can even bring Rhonda back into his stable of affirmative action misfits. Racists, sharing their hatred of ‘typical white people’, has taken them to the level they enjoy this very day.
tells you how much news they're digging up at the pitch when they have time to count adverbs. maybe somone should the number of times the pitch writers use the f word in print or blogs and how often their escort ads lead to prostitution busts
I believe the issue is that Jason makes money from syndication and has some long term contracts around the countryside (he and Posnanski).
Not passing judgment, just saying......
43 adverbs in 6 columns? Is 7 per column unusual? How about some comparison. Roger Cohen's column today has 11. Thomas Friedman uses 14. But don't let facts get in the way of a cheap shot.
Cheap shots are Fatback's forte.
I'm sure Whitlock uses "cracker," "honky" and "filthy" Jew as well.
Refresh us, why did ESPN kick his ass out the door so soon?
Whitlock got the Duke Lacrosse story right and he got it right the first time. He is the kind of journalist the KC Star needs.
Walt-in-Durham
He is the kind of journalist the KC Star needs.
No Walt he is not. While he got one right because everyone without a dog in the show suspected from the first mention the fix was in on the Duke boys. It was an easy call because there was a whole rash of phony claims all across the country.
As for the rest of his time, Whitlock is one of the worst and most blatant racists ever to have inked a pen. He slanders on a regular basis anyone and everyone not like him. Catholics, Jews, Whites, gays... the list goes on. Rev Wright and David Duke have nothing on Cheese Burger.
He is a total embarrassment to any city with a generally decent, fair minded population.
This is the kind of man that Tar and Feathers were designed for.
Porkchop is a so-called sports writer. It would have been a sports writer’s death knell for him to side with his race, and crucify a sports team from the get go, IMO. I am guessing he held his nose and keyboarded what he had to. I thought he was trying to be fair until I read his backhanded remarks more closely.
Jason writes, “Men behaving badly in groups -- especially under the influence of alcohol -- cuts across all social, economic and racial demographics.”
‘Precious’ was a black prostitute, substituted for the exotic (non-black) dancer the men hired. Jason knew that no doubt. Who behaved badly? How about the skanky liar who had sex with several men before even entering the Lacrosse players house? Jason should have added prostitution is against the law in NC. He did not get it right, IMO either.
It appears that many of the right-wing commentators on this blog thread carry some racism and race-baiting of their own.
That's OK. Hypocrisy is acceptable on this rancid blog.

Wasn't that the incident where he held up the sign from the press box telling the home fans that their quarterback was gay?
There have been so many bigoted incidents with him, it could be anything.
You gotta love these hypocrites, so-called journalists sit with their red pencils at the ready looking for comma misuse, casting aspersions on someone counting adverb overkill. Stuff that hypocrisy up your Twitter.
In response to the ridiculously shallow remark:
“tells you how much news they're digging up at the pitch when they have time to count adverbs.”
