More details here. (Hat tip: comments.)Nothing official yet, but Bee management is considering coming to The Guild with a proposal to avert furloughs through another option.
“We have to do something,” said Bee HR chief Linda Brooks during an informational meeting on Wednesday. They will come to us when a plan is ready, Brooks said.
One option being considered is a mandatory vacation burn down, which was proposed in Modesto.

Vacation burns...
Now that pisses me off. WE accrue vacation time so WE can use it when WE want not when it is convenient to Management.
I guarantee you that no upper Management types will have to lose or change their vacations just us saps.
more hybrid changes from The Dimwit Clown at the top
The way management figures it, you're fortunate to have a job and any vacation benefit. They also look at this way: If you still haven't found a job in another industry, you're a loser who doesn't deserve decent benefits.
We are all struggling to keep this ship afloat. Sacrifices will be needed before we can find safe harbor. If we all work together as a crew we will weather this storm.
We need to do more than just bail, we need to fix the hole in the hull. A sound vessel will carry us through. With a steady hand on the tiller, a friendly wind and following seas, better days are just ahead.
Thank you and carry on.
So sorry for all you whiners. At my paper we started taking furloughs in April, done deal, so I think it's interesting that you haven't had to at SacBee and they are only just discussing it now.

thanks to the head HR idiot. She's lost and doesn't have a clue. stay tuned for her next stupid move. bottom line we will continue to loose our jobs but they will keep the $300,000 plus jobs. go figure. when you google their salaries it makes you sick
WTF! we've been taking our unpaid leave for 2 weeks now-its a shame but we're all in this mess together-if one company has to take furloughs, then all the rest should, guild or no guild.
each paper gets to decide if they want to do furloughs based on how bad they are doing. So furloughs at any paper translates to really bad and no revenue coming in. The question we should all be asking ourselves is what is next..
6:41.. are you drinking the kool-aid again..LOL
Mcclatchy doesn't play fair across the board.. They have their favorites that they have been giving special treatment to all along. From furloughs and lay offs to severance packages. Why do some Mcclatchy papers have better health insurance severance packages?
Someone please shut them down !!!
10:17, do you not know a joke when you see one? That person riffed on the Cap'n Gary theme rather nicely.
