More on Barry Shlachter -- is another wave coming Barry's way??

For those of you following the developments, Fort Wort Star-Telegram columnist Barry Shlachter still hasn't apologized to web site publisher Robert McKee for mocking the attire McKee wore to a grave site ceremony.

S-T publisher Gary Wortel contacted Robert McKee and offered an informal semi-apology, but told McKee he won't put the apology in writing.

As for Shlachter, the stubborn (and dapper) columnist still refuses to apologize.

In an email to me, Robert hints that Barry is about to experience another wave.

Not sure what the next wave will entail, but I get the feeling Barry will wish he had just apologized once his insensitive comments were pointed out.

(For background on the drama, Fort Worth Weekly has a good explanation here and here.)

I think I know what's going on here. McKee brought up to both Gary Wortel and Jim Witt himself the Jim Witt "send to all" email fail from a few months ago (that was featured on this site) and said something to the effect of "I guess Jim Witt has filled his apology quota for the year, and has run out of the ability to apologize for anything further."

That hit close to home and now they don't want to apologize out of principal regardless of how badly they need to have addressed this.

Spineless idiots.

Move on already. Many of you went on and on and whined that way too much attention, via editorial cartoons, has been given to the Sanford sitation yet so many of you are dragging this thing on longer than it really needs to be. The hypocracy with so many of you is just sad.

The FW Weekly doing a story on anything to do with the FWST is like asking a Coke employee to taste test Pepsi. The reply will always be negative. The FW Weekly needs to stick with what it does best and run ads for strip clubs and personal massage "therapy".

"The FW Weekly needs to stick with what it does best and run ads for strip clubs and personal massage "therapy"...oh that and....take more ads away from the Star Telegram every passing day. May want to look at our DFW.com ink edition as a great new example. Too funny, that has strip clubs and massage in there too. Very hypocritical don't you think? Think before you write, while you drink your Pepsi.

Please understand that I am of the opinion that DFW Ink edition is a rag also. My point was the FW Weekly is by no means an unbiased observer in anything it writes about the FWST and should be given little or no thought as to being a credible source of information.

As another poster said before, Sclachter would not have written his perverse piece if McKee was a minority.

As long as Sphincter does not apologize in wriiing, keep the pressure on the FWST and cancel your subscriptions!

McKee needs to stop being such a whiny little baby. Man up and get over it.

More like Shlachter needs to man up and apologize properly.

For shame!

At this point even if Shlachter did apologize it would patently be a false apology and what good will that do. McKee needs to put on his big boy panties and get over it.

Nonsense. Good for McKee for keeping this story alive.

It's about time the public holds journalists responsible for the tripe they dish out.

BTW: I don't think we should blast the FW Weekly for shedding light on this. Yes it is the FW Weekly that pokes at us, but it seems pretty newwsworthy and it seems that this is not going to go away anytime soon. Finally, I would chalk this up to a writer who had nothing else to write about. Maybe he was busy writing columns for the Dallas Morning News. Not sure but content sharing seems to be pretty constant in our neck of the woods. Oh McClatchy what have you done?

I don’t quite understand anyone arrogantly telling posters to move on from a discussion that still interests them. One person’s lack of interest does not dictate the disinterest of others. Besides, new facts often come to light as bloggers add their information. Cutting off information wouldn’t be something real journalists would do, but then, that would be true of unbiased professionals, posers fear the truth in my opinion.

Why did the scumbag Letterman finally apologize? He was being discussed as the lowlife creep he is, that is why. The liberals sure did try to get everyone to move on, but alas, the bloggers once again forced Letterman to do the right thing. He was losing sponsors, as was CBS.
BTW, did everyone see the list of his sponsors that bailed out? Power to the people!

I don’t believe I could measure the indignation of having a private funeral belittled, as it has not happened to me. I do think it was tasteless for Shlachter to demean anyone’s family loss in connection to a contest. More information about the complainer, Kevin McCampbell, sounded like a setup deal to me. Why would someone who could not win, raise such a stink? At McKee’s blog, the other contestants sounded shocked that Shlachter thought they would consider the contests results equal to a family’s final farewell to a loved one. Someone warped enough to write such a thing would not think an apology was necessary. I do hope decent people force him to rethink his crass behavior.

It is so typical of liberals to belittle the victim and laud the perpetrator. It’s like Joe the Plumber’s media treatment revisited. What is sad, is that this farce news reporting is still in use. Watching newspapers slide into the toilet and circle around, doesn’t seem to be eye-opening enough for Barry S and Barry O. Sad that - the big flush is coming. Maybe Pruitt can put that to music for the next meeting.

I am the individual that posted comment #2 about moving on and I am sitting here reading some of the replies and they are as I thought.

I know that it's difficult but try to detach yourself from the personal biases you have towards anything newspaper related.

To quote, "One person’s lack of interest does not dictate the disinterest of others. Besides, new facts often come to light as bloggers add their information. Cutting off information wouldn’t be something real journalists would do, but then, that would be true of unbiased professionals, posers fear the truth in my opinion.

I agree with this statement 100%. Having said that, please tell me how it is different to rail on the Sac Bee for continuing to poke fun at Governor Sanford. Every time this guy speaks it's lies. Now he's saying it was a tragic love affair and there were other women also.

So let me get this straight. Many of you went on and on about how the "libs" are jumping at this chance to keep on the subject. Drop it.... let it go.... I believe that mantra was started by our moderator yet many joined in.

Now I come on and say, "drop it" about this McKee thing and now people say you need to stay on it. Why?

Is it because he's a McClatchy employee?

Is it because Sanford is a Republican?

It appears to me that as long as it has something to do about McClatchy you guys will milk it to the death but when it comes to a disgraced, scumbag, adulterous Republican, we need to let it go.

I just don't get it.

2:40 PM, Maybe if Bill Clinton splained things to you, you would get it.

How did Governor Sanford get into this discussion about Barry Shlachter? Citing the bad behavior of another person is NOT a valid reason to end the discussion of Barry’s bad behavior. This sort of tit for tat crap is just a ploy to downplay the actions of a McClatchy elitist creep, which surprises no one. Why not discuss Obama’s drug use as an example of bad behavior? Oh right, it was never discussed by the corrupt MSM!

Or John Edwards.

Why didn't the Sac Bee rail after him day after day?

Was it because Edwards is a Democrat?

3:34 PM- Citing the Edward scandal non-coverage was brilliant. There is just no way to explain away such cover-up dishonesty before an election. The leftist media must all have a memory disorder, or something worse.
A tabloid beat the N & O on a local story.
Bwhahahahaha

Please reread the comment. The point of bringing up Sanford was to show the hypocracy of this site. People said to quit talking about Sanford. People are saying to keep talking about Shlachter.

Both idiots yet one is a repub and is a McClatchy employee.

Again the point is, well forget it, this is like trying to talk to my 6 year old. They only hear what they want to hear.

There is no hypocricy, though your small brain seems to smell it out.

The point is that Shlacter ran a perverse column and has not properly apologized.

Kudos for McKee for keeping this in the news and for shaming McClatchy.

Anonymous said...
