Fresno Bee Guild says NO to management's vacation burndown proposal

This is a surprise -- the Fresno Bee Guild apparently voted NO on management's vacation burndown proposal.

Management had proposed an alternative to unpaid furloughs that requires workers to reduce vacation balances by the end of the year. The proposal modifies the Fresno Bee contract with the Guild, and would allow a similar "burn-down" of vacation in 2010.

If you have more info, post it in comments.

Sometimes, even eunuchs can be gutsy. You go girls!

Which week is the Publisher (Will Fleet) going to take for his furlough?

Wow, finally some balls. They'll get mowed down but at least these union brothers and sisters had the guts to FU! Sac Bee, are you girls listening?

Last Stand... Good for them.

do we know if it was the same proposal as Sacramento where the rest of the non guild staff have to live and die on the decision of the guild?

that would have caused riots in sacramento to have less than 50 people make the decision for the rest of us who are not covered.

Also do we know the voting membership numbers in Fresno? Like I said in Sac the best estimates of numbers that I have heard are somewhere between 30 and 50 people who in this case had the power to make decisions for 100's of employees.

To all you whiners complaining about the Fresno Bee vote, shut up, join the guild, and you too can decide on your own fate.

Nope can't join the guild, in an exempt position but not management. One of many positions in guild departments that are not covered. So I cannot have any say in the vote. It isn't as simple as you would want it to be.

Here's a case of McClatchy Watch having to choose between rooting for those commie-pinko-lib unions or, in essence, rooting for McClatchy.

Sac Bee guild is laughable. These wimps would rather bend over and take it from Gary than stand up for anything close to right and moral. They're more incompetent and gutless than Gary and his board. Big props to Fresno guild.

There's no difference between the revulsion most of us feel for Gary or his in-house unions. One word describes both - pathetic.

Anon 9:48 LMAO Good one!

It's a matter or respect. How can you respect a newspaper guild that runs scared? Fresno rocks!

9:48... Yup, that's the essence of the thing. It is kind of like the definition of mixed emotions and the story about a teen age daughter that stays out all night, but comes home with a Gideon Bible. Mixed emotions.

The union thugs attending the town hall meetings are disgusting. Joining forces with ACORN was not the smartest idea. Seeing these losers being led around like sheep by Democrats, has been very eye-opening for me. The video of the union thugs kicking a black man has been committed to my memory. I have become very leery of all union employees. It looks to me as if these people have joined a union, and agreed to a lobotomy.

The thugs are SEIU. ACORN provides the welfare mothers, "disabled" fathers and other urban trash to vote and disrupt so they can keep their handouts.
