Yosemite Community College District trustees have pulled out of talks about buying The Modesto Bee building downtown.
YCCD and The Bee's parent company, McClatchy Newspapers, had been negotiating for seven months. But trustees decided Wednesday night that operational costs of the 156,000-square-foot building were too high in a time of economic uncertainty.
The two-story Bee building and parking lot, which take up a block and half in downtown Modesto, have been for sale since January with a list price of $7 million to $8 million.

Wasn't it reported that if they couldn't swing deals to sell properties, they'd have to do more staff cuts to reduce costs??
Call Barry Soretoe, he has money to give to his friends.
Did I just hear India Roar with excitement. More Outsourcing coming our way. Why not outsource everything!.
Oh, oh, the Miami parking lot plague has jumped to the west coast.
Sell it to a foreign investor -- like from Red China. They are the ones with money.
I often hear that CA is just waiting for the big one, and I think the big one has hit them already, it’s just not the earthquake kind. Why can’t they see what the Democrats and environmental whackjobs have done to their state?
I am sure there are decent people in California, however I can't shed a tear. Any state where the legislature can vote to cut off their noses and then expunge the vote so the population cannot hold them responsible, deserves all the pain that can be inflicted upon it.
Smart business will leave and will the individuals. Sooner or later they will converted back into the desolate wasteland that it truly is. The only problem is can we build a wall around it before the throngs realize they need to run.
California has turned into a Third World state. Illegals, entitlement drones and fraudulent home health care idiots. The state is sliding into the Pacific from the debt load. No governing, no leadership, no chance for this state.
I wonder if we renamed the state "Utopia" if it would draw enough of the Northern Parasites to effectively isolate them into a giant quarantine area and then under the cover of darkness mine all roads going out?
The West Bank of Utopia. Now that sings.
The funny part of the whole mess is that McClatchy reports on the bad economic situation and rising unemployment and in the same breath (actually the same week) lays off 180 from the Modesto Bee (Sept. 2008). Their Corpserate HQ is right in the state capitol and they are blind to the fact that if the State Gub'ment keeps on it's suicidal bent that the majority of businesses will continue the exodus to their neighbors to the north,east...and south or (sur para sus hispanics). I am living proof of what McClatchy has helped do to this state. After 20 years working for them, I am now receiving Gub'ment entitlement (unemployment AND paid retraining) and I am enjoying my NEW LIFE free of the BEE

Thank God I'm free of the Bee at last...
I kinda wish they had done this sooner!
