Outrage in Manhattan -- McClatchy papers hire pro-KU blogger to cover Kansas State (updated)

The Wichita Eagle and the Kansas City Star have hired a pro-KU blogger to cover Kansas State University athletics.

Kansas State fans are in an uproar. Click here for Nick Sloan's story.

The KU blogger used to have a blog called "The Jayhawk Lounge" but he deleted it. Which gives ammo to critics who claim he is trying to conceal his prejudices. Click here for cached version.

MAYBE, ASIDE FROM McCLATCHY'S BLATANT BIAS, THEY SEE THE WRITING ON THE WALL.

Milestone: Local online tops traditional. (InsideRadio.com)

For the first time, digital media use exceeds that of radio, newspaper, television and other traditional media among small and medium-sized businesses.

BIA/Kelsey’s Local Commerce Monitor study shows 77% of local businesses are doing some form of digital marketing. At the same time, traditional media usage slips to 69%.

Kelsey Group director of research Steve Marshall has been tracing the trend of digital replacing traditional media and the latest data is an “indicator of the broad shift to online platforms.”

The firm says nearly four of every ten advertising and promotional dollars goes to digital, doubling last year’s level. Ability to track lead sources by counting clicks or emails is the biggest motivator.

The shift comes as local advertisers hold their marketing dollars tighter in hand. According to the study, they decreased spending on advertising and promotion over the last year by 24%from $2.7 billion to $2.1 billion.

BIA chief economist Mark Fratrik says, “There is some promise for radio and television stations." He says many companies are already selling their station site as well as new city-based online destinations using their existing brand names and ability to cross-promote.

Stuff like this just makes you wonder if these people have even the slightest clue what they are doing.

The so called, "Journalists" graduating from the so called, "School of Journalism" in Columbia would go literally insane if someone had hired someone from a rival university to host their blogs.

The KC Star has got to be manned with the most incompetent boobs that ever infected a newspaper.

K-State does not have to give him press credentials.

Press Credentials? Perish the thought. That would mean we'd have to spend money to send him to games and that isn't happening.

We're getting him a pass to the KU Memorial Union so he can watch the games and blog from there. After all, it is Mark's living room too you know.

Press Credentials indeed.

Don't blame the Star entirely for this hire. The Wichita Eagle was the one that lost Jeffrey Martin, who was the beat writer.
