Derek Donovan, erstwhile Readers Representative at the Kansas City Star, has been forced to once again apologize for a Journalism 101 mistake in KC's major newspaper.
This time it involved forgetting to note "When" President Obama will be addressing the country about his important healthcare plan.
Donovan's answer was interesting, particularly since he almost tells readers it is probably best not to count on the Star for basic information. In the final sentence he tells readers to go to another Web site or their own TV for information.

Wow, KC still has a readers rep? The Fort Worth Star-Telegram eliminated the ombudsman position over 2 years ago. It happened after we got a new "publisher" whose only concerns are shipping $50 million a year in profit back to Sacramento while gutting the staff and the paper.
8:39 AM They can't get rid of Donovan. The gay lobby would crucify Zieman if he did.
Besides, he doesn't really even pretend to represent the readers. He just makes excuses for the Star. He also serves in other positions such as librarian and part time sales girl, the latter being his bread and butter.
Yeah, he is not a reader's rep in any sense of the word. Indeed, he is almost stereotypically an example of everything that ever was wrong at The Star. He is a liar and abusive to readers.
Read his stuff often enough and you'll quickly get the drift that well, there are many sides to every story and he can see and understand all of them, but nothing is going to change at The Star.
And, as I said, back him into a corner to try and get past the BS and he'll get abusive. If you look at his blog, you'll see that almost no one ever contributes any comments (which may be a function of the fact that his critics are technologically prohibited from posting there). You'd be better off going down to 18th and Grand and talking to the side of hte building.
