Census Bureau severs ties with ACORN (The American Thinker)

In the wake of a second videotape surfacing of ACORN employees counseling a pimp and prostate on establishing their business and evading taxes, the Census Bureau has severed ties with ACORN.

Acorn brought down by two people and a camera and of course the MSM and McClatchy.

Oh wait the MSM and McClacthy was AWOL except for Fox News.

And kudos to Breitbart and biggovernment.com while NBC is busy reporting CNN’s false.

FOX news needs a new motto.

“We report because they don’t want to.”

ACORN Fires More Officials for Helping 'Pimp,' 'Prostitute' in Washington Office (Foxnews)

Two more ACORN officials were fired Friday after a second video surfaced showing staffers in the community organizers' Washington office offering to help a man and woman posing as a pimp and prostitute acquire illegal home loans that would help them set up a brothel.

The firings came less than 24 hours after another pair of ACORN officials from the group's Baltimore office were canned for instructing the "pimp" and "prostitute" how to falsify tax forms and seek illegal benefits for 13 "very young" girls from El Salvador that pair said they wanted to import to work as child prostitutes.

ACORN Sprouts HUNDREDS of Trees
No Quarter

ACORN has erected an elaborate web of front organizations that allow it to hide its influence and reach.

A quick search of the internet using the New Orleans address of ACORN, and guess what?

Almost three hundred organizations connected to ACORN. TWO HUNDRED AND NINETY FOUR names. Got that?

This is a tangled web that defies the ability of any one person or organization to figure out who is working for whom.

It's like carnival workers using the old three cups on a table trick to keep the public guessing where they hid the pea.

Here ACORN has 290 plus “cups” to use to hide their financial and organizational shenanigans.

Obama worked for ACORN-affiliated voter registration group in 1992

Obama and ACORN:
Barack Obama has publicly denied ever working for ACORN in his career as a “community organizer.”

In 1992 Obama got one of his first “community organizing” jobs with an outfit called “Project Vote” as its state organizer for Illinois:

“Sneed hears a massive voter registration drive on the South and West sides is being conducted by Gary Gardner, president of Soft Sheen products, Joe Gardner, former strategist for Mayor Harold Washington, and Barack Obama, a state director of Project Vote, a national voter registration group.” – Chicago Sun Times, August 2, 1992

So what was “Project Vote” all about? Let’s allow Barack Obama himself to explain it:

If Project Vote is to reach its goal of registering 150,000 out of an estimated 400,000 unregistered blacks statewide, "it must average 10,000 rather than 7,000 every week," says Barack Obama, the program's executive director….

"Our biggest problem is the young, the 18 to 35 group," said Obama, 31, the first African American to serve as president of the prestigious Harvard Law Review. "There's a lot of talk about 'black power' among the young but so little action."

SNIP

“Project Vote,” run in Illinois by state coordinator Barack H. Obama, was a radical black power organization.

Project Vote was something else too though. It was an ACORN-affiliated voter registration group that was active in the 1980’s and 1990’s.

Senate to close ObamaCare loophole for illegal immigrants that media claims doesn’t exist (JOR WILSON WAS RIGHT)

I don’t get it. The modern-day Murrow told us last night that Joe Wilson was wrong, wrong, wrong.
If a man can’t trust Keith Olbermann to tell him the truth, who can he trust?

The controversy over Republican Rep. Joe Wilson’s shouting out “You Lie!” at the President over his claim that illegal immigrants wouldn’t benefit from health-care reform apparently sparked some reconsideration of the relevant language.

“We really thought we’d resolved this question of people who are here illegally, but as we reflected on the President’s speech last night we wanted to go back and drill down again,” said Senator Kent Conrad, one of the Democrats in the talks after a meeting Thursday morning.

Baucus later that afternoon said the group would put in a proof of citizenship requirement to participate in the new health exchange — a move likely to inflame the left.

Why would the left be inflamed? Putting laws on the books about illegal immigrants and then studiously ignoring them is a longstanding American tradition.

Meanwhile, as expected, Wilson’s starting to rake in big dough from his outburst; a flash poll shows him actually trailing Rob Miller by a single point while the national media throws everything they’ve got at him, but expect Miller’s lead to go the way of The One’s bounce in the next few weeks as things calm down.

White House stiffens against illegal immigrants (JOE WILSON WAS RIGHT) San Diego Union-Tribune

WASHINGTON — The White House strengthened its stand against health care coverage for illegal immigrants Friday, and a pivotal Senate committee looked ready to follow its lead.

((snip))

Currently illegal immigrants are barred from government-funded care except in certain emergency cases, but many buy private insurance and there's nothing to prevent them from doing that.

That would change under the White House's proposal, which is certain to alarm some on the left.

New Furor on Healthcare and Illegal Immigrants (JOE WILSON WAS RIGHT) Chicago Tribune

Key members of the Senate Finance Committee, who are expected to play a pivotal role in the final struggle over revamping healthcare, on Friday sought to extinguish the latest brush fire – a furor over possible benefits for illegal immigrants.

Committee members ended their closed-door deliberations yesterday without reaching agreement on a response, but work is scheduled to continue into the weekend on the immigrant and other questions.

"What we're trying to prevent is anybody who is here illegally from getting any federal benefit," said Sen. Kent Conrad, D-S.D., a member of the so-called "Gang of Six" that has been working on the overall healthcare compromise.

At issue is whether the proposals being worked out by congressional Democrats with the support of President Obama would make benefits available directly or indirectly to persons who are not in the United States legally.

Rasmussen Finds Little Movement After Obama's Speech (American Spectator)

A Rasmussen poll released this morning found that Obama received a negligible bump from his speech on Wednesday, with support for Democratic health care legislation now at 46 percent, up from 44 percent before the speech.

A majority of 51 percent are still opposed, according to the poll. Perhaps most interestingly, all of the bump came from an increase in support among Democrats.

Washington Post Marketing Executive Resigns After 'Salons' Incident (Washington Post)

The marketing executive at the center of a controversial series of Washington Post-sponsored dinner "salons" has resigned from the newspaper some 10 weeks after the events were canceled, The Post said Friday.

Charles Pelton, who had helped organize and promote the monthly dinners as The Post's newly hired general manager of events and conferences, made no mention of the controversy in his resignation letter to Post President Stephen P. Hills. Instead, Pelton wrote, "Given the current circumstances with regard to the resources needed to launch [an events business], my family and I have decided not to relocate to Washington, D.C.," from California.

Pelton was not immediately available for further comment.

Summers: High unemployment for years (Politico)

The president’s chief economic adviser warned Friday that the nation’s unemployment rate could stay “unacceptably high” for years to come — a situation that would seriously complicate Barack Obama’s ability to convince Americans that he’s beating back the recession.

“The level of unemployment is unacceptably high,” National Economic Council Director Larry Summers said Friday. “And will, by all forecasts, remain unacceptably high for a number of years.”
Summers’ comments came in a briefing with reporters ahead of Obama’s speech in New York City on Monday, marking the one-year anniversary of the collapse of Lehman Brothers, an event widely regarded as having created a panic that caused the global economic meltdown.

Toyota closure could erase 40,000 jobs in California (HispanicBusiness.com)

DETROIT - Toyota's decision to close its 25-year-old California factory where UAW workers build Corolla cars and Tacoma pickups has delivered a seismic, Detroit-like jolt to the once-invincible Silicon Valley economy.

The Japanese automaker's first plant closing in North America will add to California's swelling unemployment rolls, and perhaps, help the Golden State better empathize with the industry that it has persistently challenged with regulatory requirements.
The closure also will eliminate Toyota's only UAW-represented workforce.

100 Jobs? It Looks Good to Michigan (New York Times)

DETROIT — The announcement of a new plant employing just 100 workers might seem like a long shot to attract the chief executive of General Motors, two senators and a raft of state and local officeholders from across Michigan.

But in a state that has lost 800,000 jobs this decade, 18 percent of its work force, the Aug. 13 official opening of a G.M. factory to build electric-car batteries in Brownstown, about 20 miles southwest of Detroit, was a can’t-miss event.

Obama Slaps tariffs on Chinese tires (Yahoo)

President Barack Obama on Friday slapped punitive tariffs on all car and light truck tires entering the United States from China in a decision that could anger the strategically important Asian powerhouse but placate union supporters important to his health care push at home.

Obama had until Sept. 17 -- next week -- to accept, reject or modify a U.S. International Trade Commission ruling that a rising tide of Chinese tires into the U.S. hurts American producers.

A powerful union, United Steelworkers, blames the increase for the loss of thousands of American jobs.

Teachers want to warn pupils of patriotism 'peril' (The UK is committing national suicide)
Daily Mail (UK)

Three-quarters of teachers in Britain's schools believe they should warn pupils about the dangers of patriotism - which some regard as a form of 'brainwashing', researchers have found.

A nationwide study found the majority of teachers felt they should not be promoting the subject at all in the classroom, with some preferring to instruct their pupils in the benefits of 'universal brotherhood'.

And even those who felt positively about patriotism felt the need to qualify and tone down their support, stressing that they disliked 'jingoistic flag-waving'.

The findings are a blow for the Government after Prime Minister Gordon Brown spoke out in favour of encouraging pupils to be patriotic, calling for 'Britishness' lessons to be part of the curriculum.

Parsing Mr. Wilson’s Apology

Let’s take a moment to rejoice in our country’s infinite capacity to surprise.

I’d have been willing to bet that we had a national consensus on the undesirability of a congressman yelling out “You lie!” during an address by the president of the United States. But no. It turns out there are quite a few people who think this is a good idea.

Joe Wilson, who will be forever known as the “You lie!” congressman, unless he does something even weirder in the future, has a lot of fans this weekend at the Taxpayer March on Washington. This is an anti-Obama demonstration organized by FreedomWorks, the group that helped bring us the summer town hall meeting protests.

Those were, of course, the events where we learned that we did not actually have a national consensus on the inadvisability of bringing loaded weapons to places where the president is speaking.

Among the co-sponsors of the march are the Tea Party Patriots, who helped bring us those anti-tax rallies last spring, during which we learned that there are some patriots who love the country so much that they would like to see their state secede from the union.

And now they also love Joe Wilson. “People need to stop being afraid and not bite their tongues,” one of the marchers told the newspaper The Hill. Actually, fear of self-expression does not seem to be that big of a problem with this group, but Wilson undoubtedly appreciated all the supporters who honored him by yelling “Liar!” as often as possible.

The tea party movement activists range from geeky Ron Paulists who obsess about the money supply to conspiracy theorists who believe that Barack Obama is a noncitizen brought here by people who hate this country and had the foresight to plant a birth notice in a Hawaiian newspaper 48 years ago, just in case they ever needed it.

The one thing that unites them seems to be a sense of inchoate rage. Although mentioning it makes them really, really mad.

7:00 AM- The contributions to Miller came from a KOS and a DNC driven effort. The contributions for Wilson are coming from small donors countrywide. Sound familiar? Wilson’s web site cannot handle the traffic to made contributions. Many people are sending him a check, so the total he will receive cannot be calculated for weeks, but it is expected to double the amount collected to date.

The Senate is adding the provision that proof of citizenship must be shown. It seems Joe was right! It should also be known that the GOP wrote a bill that illegals would not be eligible for health care, and the Dems defeated it. Now why would that be? Obama is a liar, and more people that voted for him are realizing what a mistake they made!

Even though after the Wednesday speech approval of Obama's Health Care plan is back to robust levels, we ought to begin asking the question if we are not experiencing a return to one of the most disgraceful eras of American history--the McCarthy reign of terror in the early 1950's. As you can see from Herblock's classic cartoon, the Republican Party was a willing co-conspirator with Senator McCarthy. The scary part about our current witch hunt is that Joe McCarthy, unlike Glenn Beck, never had a billionaire media partner like Rupert Murdoch.

Beck, after successfully waving the scalps of supposed radicals Van Jones and Yosi Sergant has now turned his witch hunt on Mark Lloyd, associate General Council of the FCC; Cass Sunstein, head of the Office of Information and Regulatory Policy; and Carol Browner, a White House Advisor on Climate Policy. I Assume Beck has his boss Rupert's full permission to pursue the blacklisting and defamation of Lloyd, Sunstein and Browner. Both Fox News and Murdoch's Wall Street Journal are pushing this story so it would be a mistake to dismiss this as a single whack-job TV commentator.

But the lessons from the McCarthy era are important. For three years of the witch hunt, President Eisenhower stayed silent as did most of the majority of American citizens even though polls showed he had very little general support. The Majority was silent until one brave journalist, Edward R. Murrow decided to call the bully Senator out. What he had to say about McCarthy was instructive for our own moment.

His primary achievement has been in confusing the public mind...We must not confuse dissent with disloyalty. We must remember always that accusation is not proof and that conviction depends upon evidence and due process of law. We will not walk in fear, one of another. We will not be driven by fear into an age of unreason, if we dig deep in our history and our doctrine, and remember that we are not descended from fearful men.

We have just witnessed a month in "the age of unreason", where a group of fanatic idealogues have succeeded in "confusing the public mind". They have no conscience as to whose life they ruin or what false charges they bring against our President. We can only assume that the corporations that finance them want their lies to be spread. So let's hear from Mr. Murdoch of News Corp (Fox News and the Wall Street Journal) and Mark Mays of Clear Channel (Limbaugh). Do you really support these views or is this some cynical view that it's just entertainment and not going to lead to tragic circumstances. I was lucky enough to meet the writer Waldo Salt who had been blacklisted in the 1950's. His livelihood was stolen from him. He was a far greater American than Joe McCarthy, just like mark Lloyd is a far greater American than Glenn Beck.

We cannot stay in the silent majority. Both the President and all of us need to make it clear to Mr. Murdoch and Mr. Mays (markpmays@clearchannel.com) that we will not condone another Blacklist.

New York Times Is Wrong, Joe Wilson is Right on Illegal Immigrants (Human Events)

“Mr. Obama didn’t lie. The bills before Congress declare illegal immigrants to be inelligibile for subsidized benefits. It is impossible to imagine any final bill doing otherwise.. Mr. Wilson was a boor, but some Republicans still insist that he was right because the bill doesn’t ensure that the undcocumented have no insurance. Time for a reality check.”

So editorialized the New York Times on Friday, September 11th.

As the furor continues over the cry of “You lie!” by Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) during President Obama’s address on health care on Wednesday (September 9), the national media omits two important details:

1) that a non-partisan study earlier this year backed up Wilson’s conclusion hat the Obama health care measure (H.R. 3200) does, in fact, cover illegal immigrants, and

2) that Wilson was correct when he told HUMAN EVENTS a day after his outburst that Republican attempts to amend the measure to deny benefits for illegal immigrants were thwarted in two key House committees.

A study by the non-partisan Congressional Research Service (and cited by Wilson in his interview with us) dealt precisely with how illegal aliens would be treated by the Obama-backed health care measure. Entitled “Treatment of Noncitizens in H.R. 3200” and authored by Alison Siskin (a specialist in immigration policy) and legislative attorney Erika Lunder, the eight-page study was released by the CRS on August 26, 2009.

Among its conclusions are that “H.R. 3200 does not contain any restrictions on noncitzens participating in and paying for coverage available through the [Health Insurance] Exchange -- whether the noncitizens are legally or illegally present, or in the United States temporarily or permanently [italics added].” (see “Summary,” “Treatment of Noncitizens in H.R. 3200”).

In addition, the CRS study concluded that the bill’s changes to the Medicaid and State Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) “ could also mean that more noncitizens who meet the categorical and income eligibility standards for Medicaid but are barred due to their immigration status (e.g., nonimmigrants, unauthorized aliens) would be eligible for emergency Medicaid [italics added].” (See “Treatment of Noncitizens in H.R. 3200,” Page Six)

Charles Rangel - sign of the times--Our rulers behave as if the rules don't apply to them (The Washington Times)

Rep. Charles B. Rangel, New York Democrat and chairman of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee, is becoming a metaphor for almost all the sins of our age.

Let us count the ways.

How about corruption?

Currently, Mr. Rangel is under investigation by two House subcommittees for illegally holding four rent-stabilized apartments in New York and not disclosing more than $75,000 in income from a rental villa he owns. He also took free Caribbean trips paid for by corporate cronies and used his congressional letterhead to press for money for the City College of New York's new educational center, which bears his name.

Mr. Rangel also acknowledged that he improperly listed his assets, as required by law, and failed to report additional checking accounts valued between $250,000 and $500,000 -- princely sums acquired on a congressional salary.

Try also hypocrisy.

Mr. Rangel is the head of the Ways and Means Committee that writes the nation's income tax policy. The politician, who for generations has urged higher taxes, has chronically schemed to avoid paying them. Don't dare try that if you are a waitress or schoolteacher.

In this regard, Mr. Rangel is similar to other Obama cabinet nominees and secretaries like Tom Daschle and Timothy F. Geithner -- advocates of higher taxes and bigger government -- who themselves were in violation of the federal tax code. In this weird, new moral landscape, good public intentions apparently offset private lapses.

After the Republican scandals involving lobbyist Jack Abramoff, Rep. Duke Cunningham of California, Rep. Mark A. Foley of Florida and Sen. Larry E. Craig of Idaho, new House Speaker Nancy Pelosi promised to "drain the swamp," to end the Republican "culture of corruption" and to create "the most ethical Congress ever." Proclaiming ethical reform apparently means you have already enacted it.
