Obamacare: Buy insurance or go to jail! (Politico.com)

Sen. John Ensign (R-Nev.) received a handwritten note Thursday from Joint Committee on Taxation Chief of Staft Tom Barthold confirming the penalty for failing to pay the up to $1,900 fee for not buying health insurance.

Violators could be charged with a misdemeanor and could face up to a year in jail or a $25,000 penalty, Barthold wrote on JCT letterhead. He signed it "Sincerely, Thomas A. Barthold."

Even more devastating is the actual note which you have to click on the politico link to see.
It reads: ...if there is a willful failure to file, pay, maintain appropriate records and the like that the taxpayer may be charged with a misdemeanor with a penalty of up to $25,000 and not more than one year in jail.

He adds a sort of post script: Felony tax evasion provides for restitution and a fine of up to $100,000 for an individual and up to five years in jail.

[Every Democrat] Votes Against Measure Allowing Americans To Keep Their Current Health Care (nrsc.org)

WASHINGTON – In a vote that should send chills up the spine of those satisfied with their current health insurance, Democrats in the Senate Finance Committee today rejected a Republican amendment that would allow Americans to keep their current health care coverage.

Sponsored by U.S. Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT), the amendment stated that the implementation of the final health care bill would not take place unless the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) was able to certify before Congress that the legislation would not cause more than 1,000,000Americans to lose their current coverage.

The amendment was rejected 10-13, with all Republican Senators voting in favor and all Democrats voting against.

Notably, the defeat of the Hatch Amendment comes on the same week that the head of the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO), Douglas Elmendorf, testified before Congress that seniors would see reduced Medicare benefits under the bill currently in the Finance Committee.

It also came on the same day that various media accounts highlighted the Democrats’ defense of the proposed cuts in the popular Medicare Advantage program that so many senior citizens rely upon for their health care.

“It’s inexplicable that the same Democrats who continue to insist that Americans’ current health care coverage will not be affected by the Democrats’ government-run proposal would then turn around and vote against an amendment that would ensure just that,” National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) Amber Wilkerson Marchand said today.

Death Panels by Proxy (The Washington Times)

Yes, there are death panels. Its members won't even know whose deaths they are causing.

But under the health care bill sponsored by Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus, Montana Democrat, death panels will indeed exist - oh so cleverly disguised as accountants.

The offending provision is on Pages 80-81 of the unamended Baucus bill....

Senate kills bid to make White House czars accountable (Computerworld)

A proposed amendment that would have given Congress more oversight over the White House cybersecurity czar and at least 17 other czars appointed by President Obama was shut down in the U.S. Senate today.

The amendment, proposed by Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine), sought to restrict federal funds for the expenses of White House-appointed czars unless two conditions are met.

One of them was to require the president to agree that every czar would respond to "reasonable requests" to testify before Congress on matters related to the office.

The other required White House-appointed czars to issue a report to Congress twice a year. The proposed amendment was in an Interior Department environmental appropriations bill on the Senate floor.

No, You Can't Read the Legislation(Washington Times)

Democrats don't want lawmakers to know what's in health care legislation before Congress votes on it.

President Obama and Democratic leaders apparently recognize their chances of ramming through a vote are hurt if members of Congress actually have a chance to read the bills.

On Wednesday, Democrats on the Senate Finance Committee killed a Republican amendment to Chairman Max Baucus' health care proposal that would require a three-day waiting period between when the bill is completed and a committee vote could be held.

This short waiting period would allow panel members time to examine the actual legislative language and full cost of the Baucus bill before voting on it.

This is important for a tax-heavy bill that - when combined with other existing legislation - could nationalize as much as 10 percent of the U.S. economy.

House Republicans have introduced a measure that would require the final version of all nonemergency legislation to be posted online 72 hours prior to any floor vote.

This would be a valuable reform, but few Democrats will have the courage to buck House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and provide the support needed to ensure members actually have the chance to know what they are voting on.

Mrs. Pelosi promised a 48-hour waiting period before a vote on the $787 billion stimulus package but didn't deliver.

We wouldn't be surprised to see similar shenanigans this time around.

East Cleveland's Mayor Maybe Possibly Shouldn't Have Passed Around Those Transvestite Photos
(Comedy Central's Indicision)

To all you would-be politicians hoping to jump start a career in the public spotlight at the local level, be fore-warned:

Local politics can be a pretty cut-throat business. And you'd be well served to not provide your political opponents with any ammunition to help them bring you down

East Cleveland Mayor Eric Brewer blasted a local television station Thursday, one day after it aired photographs that purported to show the mayor wearing a wig and lingerie.

The news conference came less than a week before voters decide if he should be re-elected.

You see, that guy didn't think ahead. If you're serious about starting a career in politics, you're simply going to have to train yourself to keep track of where all the transvestite pictures of you are and who has access to them.

HuffPo Cofounder Takes On ‘Democrat-Media Complex’ [Breitbart Interview]
Washington Independent

On September 10, Andrew Breitbart launched his new site, BigGovernment, with hidden-video camera footage of two young conservative activists who’d gotten Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) employees to advise them on hiding prostitution profits from the IRS.

Within hours, Breitbart was doing interviews with reporters who wanted to know how, exactly, the story had come about, and why Big Government was releasing the videos and the identity of the muckrackers — 25-year-old James O’Keefe III and 20-year-old Hannah Giles — so slowly.

“It was strategized,” Breitbart told TWI this week, so “that they would be deprived of the type of information that a defense attorney would try to gather in order to create a defense.”

Who were “these people?” They were not just the leaders or members of ACORN itself.

“They” were the Democratic Party, the White House, the progressive Center for American Progress and its president John Podesta.

The “Democrat-media complex” is Breitbart’s name for the whole apparatus.

“We deprived them of information,” Breitbart explained, “so that they couldn’t come up with a vile, kill-the-messenger attack with the media doing the groundwork for them.”

NBC to Anti-ACORN Group: "Bite Me, Jew Boy!" (BigGovernment.com)

Apparently NBC “Dateline” producer Jane Stone or someone else who has access to her Blackberry has a problem with groups that oppose ACORN and with an ethnocultural minority.

When Stone received an email urging Congress to defund ACORN from Alex Rosenwald, director of media outreach for Americans for Limited Government, the following sentence came back to Rosenwald from Stone’s account: “Bite me, Jew Boy!”

Jersey City's Jimmy King pleads guilty to corruption (No Mention of Party - Why? BECAUSE HE IS A DEMOCRAT. (Jersey Journal)

Unsuccessful Jersey City City Council candidate James "Jimmy'' King faced a federal judge in Newark this afternoon and admitted he took $5,000 to $10,000 in bribes in exchange for his future official assistance of development projects proposed by a man who turned out to be a federal informant.

By pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit extortion under color of official right, the 67-year-old King is expected to be sent to prison for 10 to 16 months when he is sentenced on Jan. 5.
The charge normally carries a maximum penalty of 20 years behind bars.

As a now convicted felon, the longtime figure in Jersey City politics loses his right to vote, hold office, sit on a jury and own a firearm.

King made no comment as he left the courtroom, but in the hallway, his attorney, Arthur Abrams of Jersey City, said his client is remorseful. "He is very sorry for what occurred,'' Abrams told reporters.

U.S. Newspapers ‘Need Cash Now,’ Group Tells Congress Bloomberg
Sept. 24 (Bloomberg)

...U.S. newspaper publishers, suffering advertising and circulation drops, may need government help to survive as their cash reserves dwindle, the Newspaper Association of America told Congress today.

“Newspapers need cash now,” John Sturm, president of the trade group, said before the Joint Economic Committee in Washington.

Congress could help through proposals to allow newspapers to become nonprofits or to alter how they are taxed for net operating losses, he said.

Newspaper publishers have slashed jobs, cut pay, reduced sections and raised newsstand prices to help cope with record declines in advertising sales.

At least five publishers, including Tribune Co., have sought bankruptcy protection from creditors since December.

New York Representative Carolyn Maloney, chairwoman of the committee, said in an interview that the closure of printed newspapers in Seattle, Denver and Tucson, Arizona, this year was “frightening” and imperiled an “important check on government.” (HAHAHAHAHA. YOU LIE!)

Publishers including New York Times Co. and Hearst Corp. have said they are considering charging for news content on the Web, either through subscriptions or fees per article. (GOOD LUCK!)

New York Times buyout is back (More staff cuts loom) NY Post

More cuts coming.

The job-cut knife is again being brandished at New York Times Co., as the struggling newspaper publisher prepares to launch another round of employee buyouts to further trim costs.

The Times told its biggest union that it is willing to offer buyouts rather than laying off workers because members had "stepped up" to help the paper earlier this year by agreeing to a temporary pay cut proposed by management.

The New York Newspaper Guild said in a memo to members that the Times promised to honor their agreement and end the 5 percent pay cut on Jan. 1. The Times imposed a similar pay cut on non-union workers but didn't say whether it would restore their pay.

Barack Obama: President Pantywaist Restores the Satellite States to Their Former Owner (The Telegraph)

Barack Obama’s chances of re-election in three and a half years’ time may be evaporating at unprecedented speed, but his presidential ambitions could still be realised in another direction.

He would be a shoo-in to win the next Russian presidential election, so high is his popularity now running in the land of the bear and the knout.

Obama has done more to restore Russia’s hegemonial potential in Eastern and Central Europe than even Vladimir Putin.

His latest achievement has been to restore the former satellite states to dependency on Moscow, by wimping out of the missile defence shield plan.

This follows on his surrender last July when he voluntarily sacrificed around a third of America’s nuclear capability for no perceptible benefit beyond a grim smile from Putin.

If there is one thing that fans the fires of aggression it is appeasement.

Despite propaganda to the contrary, 58 per cent of Poles were in favour of the missile shield. But small nations must assess the political will of larger powers. Thanks to President Pantywaist’s supine policies, the former satellite states can see that they are fast returning to their former status.

House Approves Spending Bill
(Potitico) HEALTHCARE ANYONE?

The House approved a 30-day stop-gap spending bill Friday designed to keep the government operating through October and buy more time for the cash-strapped Postal Service to meet a $5.4 billion payment due next week for its retirees’ health benefits.

Adopted 217-190, the measure allows the Postal Service to pay only $1.4 billion on Sept. 30 and effectively amortize the remaining $4 billion after 2017. With $32 billion in the fund, the agency insists it is still able to meet its obligations, but the issue has been handled with such a political sleight-of-hand that conservatives worry it could come back to haunt taxpayers.

snip

The whole episode is an embarrassment for the Democratic leaders who began the year promising to pass appropriations bills without resorting to the parliamentary gimmicks they so often criticized when Republicans were in power.

Yet despite solid majorities in both the House and Senate –and a new Democratic president—the annual process is still far behind schedule, making it more tempting to revert to old ploys.

Let me attempt to interpret:

1. The Dems used the same tacky tactic that they wailed about the Repubs using.

2. The Post Office is broke - they just pushed off the debt to 2017.

3. This is a temporary measure because they can't get their act together and only guarantees that Congress and it's staffs get to continue working with no interruption over a pesky thing like money. But all other departments, including defense - well, all bets are off.

4. The Dems have a majority in both Houses and a Dem POTUS and this is the best they could come up with - LOL.

One journalist questions the hypocrisy of the emperor of Ă˜bamination. Too bad more spineless scribblers don’t stand up and say their biased reporting was wrong. The Tampa Trib wrote the book on biased writing, but John Nash might be a new media man.

Our imperial presidency
Hernando Today/Tampa Tribune
by John Nash

We have had more than our share of national presidents that acted like emperors, placing themselves above the laws of the land, while exhorting their subjects to work, live and love in ways they themselves avoided. With that said, allow me to state that our current president appears to have won the award as the most frivolous and imperious of all such prior "emperors." Hypocrisy is something I abhor in anyone; it is especially egregious in someone such as our president.

Where is the watchdog media? Sneakily, the Debt President, has hired a staff of over 400. Previous presidents averaged a staff of 25. It looks to me if some of these staffers are silence enforcers. The ‘Audacity’ of Obama is in thinking he can play the thug, and shove his socialism down our throats.

Barry the emperor! The September plan of indoctrination of school children almost worked. The teacher’s unions were in lockstep with the Democrats. Obama’s address to the schools complete with follow-up propaganda was insidious. The scary part is the US Department of Education provided the befouled lessons at taxpayers’ expense. The corrupted fringe media tried to spin the protest against the indoctrination as conservative’s racism. Now the video of small children chanting B H O in a public school, makes the school teachers' compliance all the more appalling.
Wake up parents! Union teachers are not the educators we thought they were.

Re: The ‘Dear Leader’ indoctrination in our school.
The US Department of Education said schools showing the B Hussein O September garbage was completely voluntary, they shitcanned the written indoctrination lesson due to detection. Then some black parents want school superintendents fired that did not broadcast the ‘Great Teleprompter Reader’ in action. The total rot in our schools is sickening. So much taxation for such a small return on the investment. Instead of political indoctrination, teachers ought to try teaching the three R’s. Now that would be ‘Hope’ for a ‘Change’!

Good for John Nash. I think a good many journalists have realized they have been played for fools. McClatchy is still writing biased garbage, but now they are called on it by bloggers. The other old fringe media journos would never do that, but the new media, and citizen bloggers will. Each correction McClatchy is forced to make shows how unprofessional they are. The old media is over, even my grandparents don’t want their old timey fish wrap.

The video of the children chanting is a disgraceful exhibition of the insidious influence of the leftist NEA and its constituent teachers. These children need counseling to protect them from the lasting harmful effects of their teachers taking advantage of them, and breaking the bonds of trust.

-Wrestling with how to talk about race-

The focus was on big issues facing a new president - one who just happened to be black. If only it were so simple.(Snip)One conundrum is how to hold Obama accountable for his words and actions...without risk of being called racist.

Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats have continually rushed major legislation to a vote to ensure little to no public scrutiny.

Anonymous said...

Pelosi promised "transparency" in her house leadership, no more backroom deals, bills made available to the public before voting. What happened to that? The legislators don’t even read the bills themselves. Queen Nancy doesn’t let bills even come to the floor if it undermines the socialist agenda she favors. She is called a “Lifer” in San FranSissy, meaning she is so far left in a leftist bailiwick, that she doesn’t even have to campaign. Sen. Baucus Admits Haste and Lack of Planning on Healthcare

Publius Forum - Warner Todd Huston

In a September 23 Senate Finance Committee Hearing Senator Max Baucus (D, Montana) was heard uttering a damning quote about the Democrat's progress on Obama's nationalization of our healthcare system. In fact it is a frightening quote that should give every single citizen pause whether he is for Obamacare or against. "We're doing this all on the fly," Baucus was heard to say, "so it's a little bit, makes me a little bit nervous." What is so telling about this short quote? Baucus has done no less than admit that the Senate is pursuing this massive enlargement of federal power..

But, like a virus far worse than H1N1, it is beginning to spread like wildfire amongst the [public school indoctrinators formerly known as “teachers.“] The Obama power grab—supported by his adoring adherents—has just about reached the most monumental proportion of all time. And Dictator-in-Chief Obama may have finally reached the apex of his desires; that of replacing God with himself. Recently, at New Jersey’s B. Obama: From Savior to Leftist Windbag in Nine Months
Canada Free Press
Fred Dardick

Blindly following the “can’t fail” left-wing playbook since gaining the White House - massive government spending, gigantic tax increases, no nukes - and habit for being dishonest with the American people, President Obama has stretched his credibility to the breaking point and people are taking notice.

That’s right folks, our President is a far left radical nut whose status with the American people, and the world in general, is falling faster than the Iranian stock market. The campaign phenomenon who came into power with promises of “Hope and Change” is now promoting an old but familiar Democrat message, “Appeasement is Strength."
