This blog is mainly about the spectacular train wreck at The Sacramento Bee and its parent company, the McClatchy Company. But I also post about current events, the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, politics, anything else that grabs my attention. Take a look around this blog, hope you enjoy it.

Self-proclaimed newspaper junkie says newspaper bailouts might be a good idea
Self-proclaimed newspaper junkie Barack Obama told reporters in Pennsylvania he is open to looking at proposals that would give tax breaks to struggling newspapers that restructure as nonprofit businesses. Click here for more details.
It's hard to imagine a worse development for journalism.

What a coincidence, our newspaper became a 'non-profit' this year not by choice, maybe we can just become a 501C and get bailed out.
McClatchy has a Robin Hood scheme going with its papers, much like Knight Ridder did. The (relatively) rich ones support the poor ones. If this nonprofit scheme were to ever become reality, don't expect MNI to let any of its papers go, especially the ones that are doing better than the others.

Thanks for the offer!

Yeah, but only the newspapers that kiss his ass - which is 99 percent of them.
