Mika: With One Exception, Every CBS Reporter, Director, Anchor A Liberal (NewsBusters)

Give Mika Brzezinski credit for candor. She has stated that during her 10 years at CBS, every reporter, producer and anchor she knew, with one exception, was a liberal.

The Morning Joe co-host made the revelation today in the course of discussing with Joe Scarborough the White House's attack on Fox News.

White House admits (on camera): We 'control' news media (WND)

TEL AVIV – President Obama's presidential campaign focused on "making" the news media cover certain issues while rarely communicating anything to the press unless it was "controlled," White House Communications Director Anita Dunn disclosed to the Dominican government at a videotaped conference.

A Trip Down Maoist Memory Lane

With Glenn Beck's revelation a few days ago that an admirer of Mao Zedong named Anita Dunn works as communications director in the Obama White House, it's time for a trip down Maoist memory lane.

Dunn has been chosen by President Obama to lead his “war” against Fox News. It’s good to know she draws inspiration from a bloodthirsty totalitarian dictator as she helps to lead the Obama administration’s assault on the First Amendment.

Dunn, who said that the most accomplished mass murderer of all time was “one of the two people that I turn to most,” is not the only Mao enthusiast to serve in the Obama administration.

Axelrod: Fox 'not really news' (Politico)

White House senior adviser David Axelrod said Sunday that the Fox News Channel is "not really a news station" and that much of the programming is "not really news."

"I’m not concerned," Axelrod said on ABC's "This Week" when George Stephanopoulos asked about the back-and-forth between the White House and Fox News, founded by Rupert Murdoch.

"Mr. Murdoch has a talent for making money, and I understand that their programming is geared toward making money.

The only argument [White House communications director] Anita [Dunn] was making is that they’re not really a news station if you watch even — it’s not just their commentators, but a lot of their news programming.

"It’s really not news — it’s pushing a point of view.

"...not really a news station..."

But I'll bet that fact checking a SNL skit is hard-hitting journalism at it's best!

CNN Panelist: Obama Can Talk to Ahmadinejad But Not Chris Wallace

With each passing day, more and more media members are taking shots at the Obama administration's strategy of attacking Fox News.

On Sunday, one of the best observations yet came from Marisa Guthrie of Broadcasting & Cable magazine:

"[Obama] can talk to Mahmoud Ahmadinejad but he can't talk to Chris Wallace."

Rahm Emanuel: Fox Isn't a News Organization Because it Has a Perspective

White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel Sunday made one of the most absurd comments to date about the Administration's fight with the Fox News Channel.

In his "State of the Union" interview with CNN's John King, Emanuel said, "It's not a news organization so much as it has a perspective.

Gannett ad sales still dropping despite 3Q profit (Yahoo)

Cost cutting produced a solidly profitable third quarter for Gannett Co. But the latest financial results for the country's largest newspaper publisher show another big decline in ad revenue.

Gannett owns USA Today, more than 80 other newspapers and 23 television stations. Its earnings Monday follow a similar report last week from McClatchy Co., another big newspaper owner that has managed to profit even as its main revenue source withers.

Gannett's ad sales in its publishing division dropped 28 percent from a year ago. That follows a 32 percent decline in the second quarter and a 34 percent decline in the first.

Layoffs and other belt-tightening moves helped the McLean, Va.-based company earn $73.8 million, or 31 cents per share.

CBS's Couric Finally Notices Obama's $1.4 Trillion Deficit
(Media Research Center)

Back on October 7, when the Congressional Budget Office reported that the federal deficit had ballooned to a massive $1.4 trillion during President Obama’s first year on the job, Katie Couric’s CBS Evening News did not tell viewers.

But Couric finally caught up to the bad news after the Obama White House put out its final numbers on Friday afternoon.

Couric disclosed the news in a brief item on the October 16 Evening News that never mentioned Obama by name: “It’s the biggest IOU Uncle Sam has ever written.

MSNBC Admits: ‘Unable to Verify’ False Limbaugh Quote; No Retraction or Apology

During the 3:00PM ET hour of live coverage on MSNBC Friday, co-host David Shuster admitted that racially charged quotes he and other hosts attributed to Rush Limbaugh had not been verified: “MSNBC attributed that quote to a football player who was opposed to Limbaugh’s NFL bid.

However, we have been unable to verify that quote independently.
So, just to clarify.” Shuster did not formally retract the quote or apologize.

Ala. Mayor (Democrat) Accused Of Taking Rolex, Bribes (AP)

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Mayor Larry Langford, who could be tossed out of office and go to prison if convicted of federal bribery charges, recently offered some advice to a new Birmingham City Council member.

"The illusion of power is the most dangerous drug on the planet," Langford said. "A little bit of power — nothing intoxicates like it."

Last week's comment may sound a lot like the government's opening argument against Langford, 61, the most recent in a long line of prominent names in the state Democratic Party to face corruption charges. Jury selection begins Monday.

Prosecutors claim a greedy, power-drunk Langford accepted bribes totaling some $235,000 — a chunk of it for upscale clothes and jewelry — while serving as president of the Jefferson County Commission before he was elected mayor.

In exchange, they say, Langford steered $7.1 million in bond business to a political crony's investment banking firm.

New York Times Declares Fox News Winner in Fight With Obama (NewsBusters)

Here's something virtually every American likely thought they'd never see: the New York Times declaring Fox News the winner in a fight with Barack Obama.

Yet, that's what David Carr declared in "The Battle Between the White House and Fox News."

In his piece published at the Times website Saturday evening, Carr almost seemed disgusted with all the attention the White House is giving to a cable news network

$1T reform for 5%ObamaCare to cover few (NY Post)

THE health-care-reform debate is plagued by different numbers on how many Americans lack health insurance, but we actually have excellent data on the question:

Ninety percent of Americans are insured, according to the Census --
and even the president more or less concurs.

The Census is the source for the much-cited figure of 46 million uninsured. Yet the very same table plainly indicates that 9 million of those are not US citizens.

That leaves 37 million uninsured who are Americans. But there's more. In the same document, the Census also plainly states that "health-insurance coverage is underreported" in its survey.

When it cross-checked its survey results with the official Medicaid rolls, it found that 16.9 percent of those on Medicaid had claimed on their Census forms that they were uninsured.

That 16.9 percent amounts to 9 million people

Tories Could 'Rip Up' BBC Charter (The BBC is a more subtle and nuanced MSDNC and requires a specific tax to support it)BBC News

Mr Hunt said he had not decided the timing of changes to BBC governance A Conservative government could "rip up" the BBC's royal charter, the shadow culture secretary has suggested.

The current royal charter allowing the BBC's licence fee expires in 2015. But Jeremy Hunt told the Financial Times that the corporation was "out of touch with the hard times the rest of the electorate is going through".

He said the BBC's structure
had "failed", adding that Tories in power would have a "very fundamental root-and-branch discussion with the BBC".

Cheerleader and regulator Mr Hunt said he had not made any decisions about the timing of any changes to the BBC's governance. But he said he would replace the current BBC Trust which he said acted as both cheerleader and regulator.

Suicide bomber kills 31 in attack on Iran Guards

TEHRAN (Reuters) – A suicide bomber killed six senior Revolutionary Guards commanders, including two of its top officers, and 25 other people on Sunday in one of the boldest attacks against Iran's most powerful military institution.

The attack highlighted deepening instability in the Islamic Republic's southeast bordering Pakistan and Afghanistan, where many of Iran's minority Sunnis live and which has seen a spate of deadly bombings and other violence in the last few years.

State media said a local rebel Sunni group called Jundollah (God's soldiers) claimed responsibility for the attack, the deadliest on the elite Revolutionary Guards in recent years, which also wounded some 30 people at a meeting of tribal chiefs.

US condemns suicide bombing attack on Iran's Revolutionary Guards
Politico

The U.S. has condemned a suicide attack that killed five Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps members today.

"We condemn this act of terrorism and mourn the loss of innocent lives," State Department spokesman Ian Kelly said.

Richard Baehr notes that it took days for the Obama administration to condemn the brutalization of democracy demonstrators in Iran, but that condemnation of attacks on the brutalizers was nearly immediate.

Ed Lasky asks: Did the US condemn Iranians' role in the Khobar Towers bombing; the support given to Hezbollah that led to the massacre of hundreds of American and French soldiers-- and the continuing killing of Lebanese and Israelis, the lies and broken agreements that have followed the building of its nuclear weapons program?

So whose side is Obama on?

Hillary’s [Mis]Statements PATTERICO

First Hillary claimed she had been named for Sir Edmund Hillary, the famous mountain climber, despite the fact that she was born more than 6 years before he gained fame for climbing Mt. Everest.

Then it was her exaggerated claims of importance in negotiating peace in Northern Ireland.

That was followed by the debunked campaign story of the pregnant Ohio woman who died after she was denied care.

And who can forget Hillary’s “mis-speak” about avoiding sniper fire in Bosnia?

Now a British paper has questioned Hillary’s statements regarding her stay at Belfast’s Europa Hotel:

“But according to the Sunday Life newspaper, during a speech she made to the Stormont parliament she said that Belfast’s landmark Europa Hotel was devastated by an explosion when she first stayed there in 1995.

The Europa, where most journalists covering the decades-long conflict stayed, was famed as Europe’s most bombed hotel, earning the moniker “the Hardboard Hotel”.

However, the last Provisional IRA bomb to damage the Europa was detonated in 1993, two years before President Clinton and his wife checked in for the night.

The last time the Europa underwent renovations because of bomb blast damage was in January 1994, 22 months before the presidential entourage booked 110 rooms at the hotel.

Mrs Clinton told assembled politicians at Stormont:

“When Bill and I first came to Belfast we stayed at the Europa Hotel … even though then there were sections boarded up because of damage from bombs.”

Hillary’s spokesman clarified that she was “trying to express a sincere ‘perception’ of a Belfast in darker days” and was “simply contrasting,” not mis-speaking.

NY Times And Wall Street Journal To Go Local In Bay Area

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--San Francisco, with its beleaguered newspaper market, will be a test ground for the New York Times and The Wall Street Journal as the rival national newspapers move to fill a void in local news coverage left over by shrinking metro dailies.

The New York Times Co. (NYT) has begun publishing additional pages for its print edition in the San Francisco area on Fridays and Sundays, featuring local news content. Ashley Huston, spokeswoman for News Corp.'s (NWS, NWSA) Dow Jones & Co., publisher of this newswire and The Wall Street Journal, confirmed that it's planning a similar ...

Our local Gannet paper is merely a Democrat party newsletter. It should title itself as the "Liberal Hotbutton."

Like McClatchy they only select news items that promote liberal issues. I canceled it years ago.
