- The Kansas City Star ranked #19 (2,214,000 uniques -- 40% better than a year ago)
- The Miami Herald ranked #22 (2,083,000 uniques -- 10% better than a year ago)
Not on the list for September: The News & Observer.
Last month, the Miami Herald was #17 with 2,502,000 uniques, and the News & Observer was #27 with 1,892,000. Inexplicably, the Kansas City Star didn't make the August, 2009 top 30. To see the August 2009 list click here.

Wonder why SacBee.com can't make this list? They're the largest circ paper in the chain aren't they?
Bet SacBee management is asking the same question. It's downright embarrassing.
Kansas City types are used to the corruption, and therefore go to McClatchy’s web site
Miami types have a lot of Castro worshipers, and therefore go to McClatchy’s web site
Sacramento still has many Americans, so the Bee can’t get the traction it wants just yet.
Just ask Melanie Sill: "There's no dispute that The Bee has a liberal editorial page on most issues, though not all matters, and has mostly endorsed Democrats. We won't change our editorial philosophy to placate critics."
It doesn't say much about a product when you can't get people to read it for FREE online.
Yes, but go to The Star's web site and read the comments. Many folks go there explicitly to insult the paper. It's everyone's cathartic to start the day. Get up, check, get coffee, check, insult The Star, check, get on with life, check.
The common theme for Miami and Kansas City: NFL teams (whether they suck or not). Unique visitors from all over the country because the Dolphins and the Chiefs have fans all over the country. That doesn't hurt.
Sac has the 49ers and Raiders, two very popular NFL teams in its general market area. Plus the SF Giants, another big fan base. And since when do the Chiefs have fans all over the world? They suck and nobody cares. The Dolphins may have some draw out of market. Your argument doesn't hold water. Plus, Sac market also has the Sacto Kings NBA team, which is very popular in this media market. Still, Sac Bee can't pull significant online uniques.
