What's up with the Bradenton Herald?... Monday through Friday circulation plunges by 12,433 over the past 6 months

The Monday through Friday circulation numbers at the Bradenton Herald are shocking. Twenty three percent -- 12,433 -- have dropped their regular subscriptions. Here are the M-F numbers:

Bradenton Herald (FL)
daily 3/31/09: 46,575 (source: Tampa Bay Business Journal)
daily 9/30/09: 34,142 (source: Tampa Bay Business Journal)
total loss over past 6 months: 12,433

The Tampa Bay Business Journal says the drop was 10 percent but that is clearly wrong.

WOW...what a horrible loss to the local community paper...and I am now counted in those circulation figures.

Almost a 27% drop?

Such a far cry from the stated 10% drop, about a 300% difference.

Could the 10% figure be the one McClatchy gave to their advertisers?

Gee what could possibly be next? Cooking the books?

With plunging circulation, plunging advertising dollars, I wonder how McClatchy’s going to pay back the Two (2) Billion they borrowed for their acquisition?

They could start by firing Pruitt and throwing in his salary and bonuses.

Guess the Tampa Business Journal could use at least one of the unemployed copy editors out there?

I asked one of the Bh reps what the percentage of circulation loss was told to them and that person stated 10%. NOT!

And why is the Director of Circulation still employed at the BH?

Cooking the books? Hasn't that happened before?

The last 6 months would have been a slower time in Bradenton. Their numbers normally pickup when the snow birds head down for the winter. Maybe we should look at YTD numbers.

the problem is and has been the same for the past 5-6 years/// they have a moron in charges of circulation and another moron in charge of home delivery and singe copy.. niether one could put there pants on without help... not one of them knows what;s going on out in the field.. If Bob ever opened his eyes he would have a stroke.... that's if he really gave a damn, mosty not... the morons in circulation only have a job because there daddy is some big shot in the company.. these morons couldn't get a job pushing a broom in a dog shelter
