How to Make ‘the Homeless Problem’ Disappear?

The answer, even in the worst economy in a long, long time -- Have a Democrat President in office.

Haven’t heard much from the media, have you (total unique listings on “homelessness rising” not in quotes from November 24-28 are really only 22)? (NewsBusters)

Mark Steyn: What Story? [Journalism’s Climategate Coverup] (The National Review)

Michael Gerson has lousy timing. In The Washington Post, in one of those now familiar elegies for old media, he writes:

And the whole system is based on a kind of intellectual theft. Internet aggregators (who link to news they don't produce) and bloggers would have little to collect or comment upon without the costly enterprise of newsgathering and investigative reporting.

The old-media dinosaurs remain the basis for the entire media food chain.

That's laughably untrue in the Warmergate story. If you rely on the lavishly remunerated "climate correspondents" of the big newspapers and networks, you'll know nothing about the Climate Research Unit scandals - just the business-as-usual drivel about Boston being underwater by 2011.

Indeed, even when a prominent media warm-monger addresses the issue, the newspaper prefers to reprint a month-old column predating the scandal.

If you follow online analysis from obscure websites on the fringes of the map, you'll know what's going on.

If you go to the convenience store and buy today's newspaper, you won't. That's the problem.
If anyone needs newspapers, it ought to be for stories like this.

If there were no impending ecopalypse, then "climate science" would be a relatively obscure field, as it was up to a generation ago. Now it produces celebrity scientists living high off the hog of billions in grants.

They thus have a vested interest in maintaining the planet's-gonna-fry line. So what do the media do?

Instead of exposing the thesis to
rigorous journalistic examination, they stage fluffy green stunts, run soft-focus "living green" features with Hollywood "activists", and at a time of massive staff cutbacks in every other department create the positions of specialist "climate correspondent" and "environmental reporter" and fill them with sycophantic promoters of the Big Scare to the point that, as Dr Mann coos approvingly to The New York Times, "you've taken the words out of my mouth".

Detroit newspaper suspends publication (The Detroit News)

Detroit's third daily newspaper has suspended operations, less than a week after its first edition hit the streets.

The Detroit Daily Press had trouble getting paid advertisers, as well as operations problems, according to a statement posted on the newspaper's Facebook page.

"Due to circumstances beyond our control, lack of advertising, lateness of our press runs and lack of distribution and sales, we find it necessary to temporarily suspend publication of the Detroit Daily Press until after the (first) of the year," the statement read.

"Once we can fix these things, we plan to be back stronger and more organized when we return.

This is just a bump in the road and not the end of the Detroit Daily Press."

The newspaper, announced in June by publishing veterans Mark and Gary Stern, published its first edition on Monday and had planned to start daily home delivery Nov. 30. The Daily Press aimed to gain readership by offering daily delivery after The Detroit News and Detroit Free Press reduced home delivery to Thursday, Friday and Sunday, while offering express editions for newsstand sales the other days of the week.

The Sterns brothers, who published daily strike papers in cities such as Detroit, Minneapolis and New York in the 1960s, '70s and '80s, said they were banking on the appeal of cut-rate advertising and a slimmed-down cost structure to survive through a tough economy.

But declining advertising and circulation figures have dogged traditional print

Climate Change: Greatest Scientific Scandal of a Generation (GatewayPundit)

While American media continues to largely ignore the Climategate scandal, the British press continues to hammer the global warming scam artists.

After the release of the Climategate documents Christopher Booker at The Telegraph slammed the scientists behind non-existent global warming:

A week after my colleague James Delingpole, on his Telegraph blog, coined the term “Climategate” to describe the scandal revealed by the leaked emails from the University of East Anglia’s Climatic Research Unit, Google was showing that the word now appears across the internet more than nine million times.

But in all these acres of electronic coverage, one hugely relevant point about these thousands of documents has largely been missed.

The reason why even the Guardian’s George Monbiot has expressed total shock and dismay at the picture revealed by the documents is that their authors are not just any old bunch of academics.

Their importance cannot be overestimated, What we are looking at here is the small group of scientists who have for years been more influential in driving the worldwide alarm over global warming than any others, not least through the role they play at the heart of the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)

...Back in 2006, when the eminent US statistician Professor Edward Wegman produced an expert report for the US Congress vindicating Steve McIntyre’s demolition of the “hockey stick”, he excoriated the way in which this same “tightly knit group” of academics seemed only too keen to collaborate with each other and to “peer review” each other’s papers in order to dominate the findings of those IPCC reports on which much of the future of the US and world economy may hang.

In light of the latest revelations, it now seems even more evident that these men have been failing to uphold those principles which lie at the heart of genuine scientific enquiry and debate.

Already one respected US climate scientist, Dr Eduardo Zorita, has called for Dr Mann and Dr Jones to be barred from any further participation in the IPCC.

Even our own George Monbiot, horrified at finding how he has been betrayed by the supposed experts he has been revering and citing for so long, has called for Dr Jones to step down as head of the CRU.

The former Chancellor Lord (Nigel) Lawson, last week launching his new think tank, the Global Warming Policy Foundation, rightly called for a proper independent inquiry into the maze of skulduggery revealed by the CRU leaks.

But the inquiry mooted on Friday, possibly to be chaired by Lord Rees, President of the Royal Society – itself long a shameless propagandist for the warmist cause – is far from being what Lord Lawson had in mind.

Our hopelessly compromised scientific establishment cannot be allowed to get away with a whitewash of what has become the greatest scientific scandal of our age.

More...Global Warming scientists admitted to throwing away much of the raw temperature data on which their predictions of global warming are based.

Climategate: Googlegate? (TelegraphUK)

What is going on at Google? I only ask because last night when I typed “Global Warming” into Google News the top item was Christopher Booker’s superb analysis of the Climategate scandal.

It’s still the most-read article of the Telegraph’s entire online operation – 430 comments and counting – yet mysteriously when you try the same search now it doesn’t even feature.

Climate change data dumped! (Times Online (UK)

SCIENTISTS at the University of East Anglia (UEA) have admitted throwing away much of the raw temperature data on which their predictions of global warming are based.

It means that other academics are not able to check basic calculations said to show a long-term rise in temperature over the past 150 years.

The UEA’s Climatic Research Unit (CRU) was forced to reveal the loss following requests for the data under Freedom of Information legislation.

Global Warming: The Multi-Trillion Dollar Piltdown Man (IsraPundit)

University of East Anglia's Climatic Research Unit admits slipshod research practices
We reported previously that the Environmental Protection Agency allegedly committed scientific misconduct and academic dishonesty by ordering a researcher to suppress information that did not support the Obama Administration's agenda of implementing carbon emission caps.

As reported by the Wall Street Journal's Kimberly Strassel,
Dr. Alan Carlin, a 37-year agency veteran, was muzzled earlier this spring.

Dr. Carlin offered a report poking holes in the science underlying the theory of manmade global warming. His superior...complained the paper did “not help the legal or policy case” for Team Obama’s decision to regulate carbon, told him to “move on to other issues,” and forbade him from discussing it outside the office.

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) meanwhile wrote openly in her letter to the Wall Street Journal that the real purpose of cap and trade is to enrich companies like Goldman Sachs and J.P. Morgan Chase, along with the Green Exchange and New York Stock Exchange. Goldman Sachs and J.P. Morgan Chase each bundled more than half a million dollars in campaign contributions to help elect Obama, and they also contributed to Gillibrand.

Now the University of East Anglia's Climatic Research Unit has admitted to destruction of original data--a practice that anybody who has ever taken a high school science class knows to be slipshod.

...The University of East Anglia's Climatic Research Unit's admitted practices fell far short of what most people in the scientific community know to be common sense standards for scientific research, and its alarmist findings about "global warming" can therefore be dismissed accordingly.

Michael Mann first of climate change scientists to be investigated (Examiner)

The fallout from the Climategate event continues as one of its primary participants, Dr. Michael Mann, is to be investigated by his employer, Penn State University. Among the more than one thousand emails released on the Internet, Mann featured prominently in many of them oftentimes making rather controversial comments.

Mann serves as the director of the Earth System Science Center at Penn State and has long been one of the more controversial figures in the debate about manmade climate change.

He is the author of the infamous ‘hockey stick’ graph which was used by Al Gore in “An Inconvenient Truth” but later was proven to be inaccurate.

In a statement (below), the university heralded Mann’s accomplishments calling him “a highly regarded member of the Penn State faculty.”

It said however that due to the questions raised by the release of the emails, it was going to investigate Mann’s research.

“The University is looking into this matter further, following a well defined policy used in such cases.

No public discussion of the matter will occur while the University is reviewing the concerns that have been raised,” the statement said.

Sir Paul McCartney urges meat-free day to cut CO2 (BBC)

Cutting out meat consumption on one day a week can have a major impact on reducing CO2 emissions, Sir Paul McCartney has said.

In an interview with Parliament Magazine he appealed for "people power" to make the difference in the fight against global warming.
He says halving UK meat consumption would do more to reduce emissions than halving the use of private transport.

Sir Paul will take his "Meat-free Monday" campaign to Brussels this week.

The estimated effect of the reduction in meat consumption, by Compassion in World Farming, is central to Sir Paul's campaign which began last June and will continue on Thursday at a European Parliament conference.

The event is also being attended by UN climate change chief Dr Rajendra Pachauri.

Writing in the Brussels-based Parliament Magazine, Sir Paul said:

"Whilst we press politicians to pass global laws to reduce carbon emissions, we should not forget our individual capacity to act in ways that will help to fight climate change - such as limiting the eating of meat.

"Having one designated meat-free day a week is a meaningful change that everyone can make."

AP Still Dutifully Pushing Global Warming Hoax (JamieWearingFool)

These folks sure don't let reality interfere with their propaganda.

Ski resorts across the country are using the Thanksgiving weekend to jump start their winter seasons, but with every passing year comes a frightening realization:

If global temperatures continue to rise, fewer and fewer resorts will be able to open for the traditional beginning of ski season.

Warmer temperatures at night are making it more difficult to make snow and the snow that falls naturally is melting earlier in the spring.

In few places is this a bigger concern than the American West, where skiing is one of the most lucrative segments of the tourism industry and often the only reason many people visit cash-strapped states like Utah during winter.

But even as world leaders descend on Copenhagen next month to figure out a way to reduce carbon emissions blamed in global warming, the industry is still grappling with leaders in some of their own ski-crazy states who refuse to concede that humans have any impact on climate change.

Chief among them is Republican Utah Gov. Gary Herbert, who says he will host what he calls the first "legitimate debate" about man's role in climate change in the spring.

While the world's leading scientific organizations agree the debate was settled long ago, the former Realtor who took office when Jon Huntsman resigned to become U.S. ambassador to China maintains that it wasn't.

"He's said to me that the jury is out in his mind whether it's man-caused and he thinks and believes that the public jury is still out," said Herbert's environmental adviser, Democrat Ted Wilson.

Herbert's reluctance to acknowledge that greenhouse gases contribute to global warming quietly frustrates Utah ski resorts that depend on state marketing money, but it openly infuriates industry officials elsewhere who liken it to having a debate about whether the world is flat.

"That's just kind of raging ignorance," said Auden Schendler, executive director of sustainability for Aspen (Colo.) Skiing Co.

"We're not environmentalists, we're business people. We have studied the hell out of the climate science. To have a neighboring governor not believe it ... It's absurd."

A climate study by the Aspen Global Change Institute is forecasting that if global emissions continue to rise, Aspen will warm 14 degrees by the end of this century, giving it a similar climate to that of Amarillo, Texas.

'Jobs Summit' no magic bullet for employment (Politico)

It’s one of the oldest tricks in the presidential playbook: when you want to focus attention on an issue, hold a meeting and call it a “summit.”

President Barack Obama’s already done a “Fiscal Responsibility Summit,” a “Health Care Summit,” an “H1N1 Flu Preparedness Summit,” and even a “Distracted Driving Summit.”

Next up: a “Jobs Summit” Thursday, and if Obama thought fighting the flu or getting health reform done was tough, wait until he faces the hard truth that presidents ultimately face when they need an economic quick-fix.

There isn’t one.

“Most presidents don’t have all that much control” over creating jobs, says the liberal economist Robert Reich, Bill Clinton’s Labor Secretary. “They can affect things at the margin.”

Obama’s under pressure to get the unemployment rate down below 10 percent, so he’s invited business executives, labor leaders, community activists, economists and others to the White House to spur ideas.

But Reich and others see double-digit unemployment extending into next year, even as the effects of the $787 billion stimulus package continue.

Obama faces another problem. His second big goal for 2010 is cutting the federal budget deficit, now a record $1.4 trillion.

But the president’s twin targets can cancel each other out. Spend federal dollars to create jobs, and boost the deficit. Raise taxes or cut spending to trim the deficit, and risk slowing down the economy even further.

Fed predicts unemployment rate of 7.5% in … 2012 (Hotair)

Hope and change, my friends … hope and change:

The unemployment rate will remain elevated for years to come, according to a forecast released Tuesday by the Federal Reserve that addresses for the first time economic conditions at the time of the next presidential election.

It paints a grim picture. Top Fed officials expect the unemployment rate to remain in the 6.8 to 7.5 percent range at the end of 2012 and said it could take “about five or six years” from now for economic activity to return to normal.

The jobless rate was 10.2 percent in October. … The math is simple:

The Courier goes as far as to call the “saved or created” claims of the Obama administration “Recovery.con,” in its headline.

Michael Brendan Dougherty finds many of the same kinds of fraud that newspapers around the nation have in the claims by the White House of stimulus success:

White House statement on Iranian decision to build 10 more uranium enrichment plants (BNONews)Votes “PRESENT” again

ORLANDO, FLORIDA (BNO NEWS) -- White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs on Sunday released the following statement after Iran's cabinet passed a legislation to build ten more uranium enrichment plants.

"If true, this would be yet another serious violation of Iran's clear obligations under multiple UN security council resolutions, and another example of Iran choosing to isolate itself.

The international community has made clear that Iran has rights, but with those rights come responsibilities.

As the overwhelming IAEA board of governors vote made clear, time is running out for Iran to address the international community's growing concerns about its nuclear program."

Iran's parliament passed a law on Sunday earmarking $20 million to support terror groups opposing the West and investigate alleged US and British plots against the Islamic republic.

The text of the legislation says the money is to "support progressive currents that resist illegal activities by the governments of the US and Britain."

Iranian officials often use such terms to describe terror groups.

The Sunday London Times newspaper was removed by authorities from shelves in the United Arab Emirates on Sunday amid intensive reporting of Dubai's debt problems, an executive at the paper said.

The National Media Council ordered the paper blocked by distributors without providing a reason, an executive at the paper in Dubai told Zawya Dow Jones.

The Sunday Times edition available in the U.A.E. on Nov. 29 featured a double-page spread graphic illustrating Dubai's ruler Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum sinking in a sea of debt.

The Times wasn't given a reason for the block, or a timeframe when it will be lifted, the executive said.

Conrad: People Who Don’t Believe in Civil Terrorist Trials should 'Leave America Go Somewhere Else’ (CNS News)

Sen. Kent Conrad (D-N.D.) told CNSNews.com that civilian courts are well-suited to prosecute al Qaeda terrorists and that "if people don't believe in our system, maybe they ought to go somewhere else.”

Conrad also dismissed a question about the rights of terrorists captured on foreign battlefields and the rules of evidence in terms of a civilian court trial as not serious.

Attorney General Eric Holder announced on Nov. 13 that five suspects in the 9/11 attacks would be tried in a civilian court in New York City instead of facing a military trial.

On Capitol Hill on Nov. 19, CNSNews.com asked Conrad: “We’re going to have a civilian trial of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed. If our troops--the evidence against him is going to be found in Afghanistan, there on the battlefield--if our troops need to enter a house and they think that there’s evidence there, should they have to establish probable cause and get a search warrant from a judge first?”

Conrad said: “You’re not being serious about these questions, are you?”

White House 'gatecrashers' posed with Obama in 2005

While hand-wringing continues in the White House and among Secret Service officials over an alleged gate-crashing of a state dinner, it appears Michaele and Tareq Salahi had met with Barack Obama previously when he served as a U.S. senator.

Yet, a June 2005 photo from Polo Contacts Worldwide shows the Salahis with Obama at a pre-event to America's Polo Cup.

Others in the photo include American Idol's Randy Jackson and members of the rock group Black Eyed Peas.

Salahi is a former board member of the American Task Force on Palestine.

White House Intruders Want Money for Their Tale [Wasn't That Creative To Pay Off Debts?] (New York Times)Such nice people huh?

WASHINGTON — As White House officials fended off new questions about how a fame-seeking couple finessed their way into the president’s glittering state dinner last week, the aspiring reality-TV stars themselves began trying to sell their story for hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Television industry executives said on Saturday that Michaele and Tareq Salahi had postponed plans for an interview Monday on CNN’s “Larry King Live” and were seeking top-dollar bids for their first television interview.

The Salahis, who embarrassed the Secret Service by passing through its security screens as if invisible and then posed for the cameras with President Obama and many of his bona fide guests at a party honoring India’s prime minister, remained out of sight on Saturday and their spokeswoman did not return calls.

The Secret Service would not comment or say whether investigators have interviewed the pair.

For years, the Salahis have publicized their own flashy adventures in the social and sporting scenes of Washington and its outlying horse country, and left behind a record of lawsuits and unpaid bills, many from the bankruptcy of the family vineyard after extended litigation between Mr. Salahi and his parents.

White House Party Crashers Linked to Obama’s Radical Pal Rashid Khalidi (GatewayPundit)

From the Polo Contacts Website–
“America’s Cup Polo Pre-Event with President-Elect Barack Obama”

American Power discovered this on the White House party crashers- They belong to a radical anti-Israeli group:

Tareq Salahi, the polo-playing intruder, is a Palestinian nationalist with ties to the American Task Force on Palestine (ATFP) , a pro-Palestine lobby demanding the “right of return” for all Palestinian refugees and their descendants.

The “right of return” has long been considered the backdoor to Israel’s destruction. But not only that:

ATFP President Ziad Asali is an America-basher who blamed 9/11 on U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East. Asali was a lead U.S. official to PLO terrorist Yassir Arafat’s funeral in 2004. And in a position paper in 2007, the ATFP called for a power-sharing agreement at the Palestinian Authority, which would have included the State Department’s designated-terrorist group, Hamas.

And, there’s more...
Canada Free Press reported that the American Task Force for Palestine (ATFP) has airbrushed references to Salahi from its website:

We do know for a fact that among the slew of memberships on charitable boards, Tareq Salahi is a former member of The American Task Force on Palestine (ATFP).

The only way to know for a fact is because even though ATFP scrubbed all references to Salahi as a board member, he can still be found on Google cache. (Canada Free Press)

Sad that White House Secret Service are looking like Keystone Kops in the aftermath of Obama’s very first state house dinner in the tent.

While the media is fixated on the hitch in Michaele Salahi’s git-along, there can be no doubt that these recently minted “party crashers” really get around.

American Power has more on the Salahi’s leadership role with the the American Task Force on Palestinian, the “moderate” rights groups pushing a thinly-veiled program of Palestinian nationalism and the “right of return” (the backdoor destruction of Israel).

According to Discover the Networks, ATFP’s former vice president is Rashid Khalidi, the Columbia University Middle East Studies professor and militant Palestinian rights activist.

Khalidi cites the late Edward Said as his major influence, and according to the entry cited, “As with Said before him, Khalidi’s involvement with the Palestinian cause goes beyond mere support.”

And, “Khalidi so strongly identified with the aims of the PLO, which was designated as a terrorist group by the State Department during Khalidi’s affiliation with it in the 1980s, that he repeatedly referred to himself as ‘we’ when expounding on the PLO’s agenda.”

Also, according to Campus Watch, ATFP remains in full support Kahlidi, for example, during charges of academic misconduct in 2005, at the time of Senator Barack Obama’s meeting with Tareq Salahi. See, “ATFP EXPRESSES FULL SUPPORT FOR COLUMBIA PROFESSOR RASHID KHALIDI.

Note too that Obama’s ties to the Palestinian community became something of an issue during the 2008 campaign. See, the Los Angeles Times, “Allies of Palestinians See a Friend in Obama.” Plus, from Andrew C. McCarthy and Claudia Rosett, “In Obama’s Hyde Park, It’s All in the Family: Passing Anti-American Radicalism From Generation to Generation.

As you may recall. The LA Times hid the tape of Barack Obama attending a 2003 Jew-bash where he praised and toasted the former PLO operative Rashid Khalidi.

With Barack Obama, it’s always about the radicalism. Always.

It looks like the Salahi security breach is much more than just an “embarassment” for the Secret Service.

Obama State Dinner Fiasco - Will Desiree Rogers Get Thrown Under the Bus? (Part Two, with video)

White House Social Secretary Desiree Rogers has been dodging the heat so far for her failure to ensure the first state dinner by the Obama administration went off without embarrassing the Obamas.

Worse still, her failure resulted in a potentially lethal security breakdown that has international repercussions.

Slowly the press, which adores Rogers almost as much as they adore her boss First Lady Michelle Obama, are beginning to look past the acknowledged faults of the Secret Service to Rogers' failed stewardship of the dinner.

Rebecca Dana and Lloyd Grove have a devastating article at the Daily Beast that noted several previous White House social and press secretaries who were aghast that Rogers was so derelict in her duties:

How on earth did it happen? Since when can someone throw on a red sari, knot a bowtie around her husband’s meaty neck and traipse into the White House, makeup artist and camera crew in tow?

And—in a question asked over turkey and stuffing at the homes of several former White House social and press secretaries yesterday—where, oh where, was Desiree Rogers?

Breaking with tradition, Rogers was a guest to the state dinner, which honored Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his wife.

'Green' jobs: Dubious future
Pittsburgh Tribune-Review

The government's projection of stimulus-funded "green" jobs in reality isn't nearly as rosy as promised -- even over the next decade, some economists say.

And to suggest these jobs will reinvigorate the economy, as the nation somehow weans itself from oil and coal, is sheer fallacy.

"We need to put 7.3 million people back to work, and none of these ideas can make a dent of more than a few hundred thousand at best ... ," says Rajeev Dhawan of the Economic Forecasting Center at Georgia State University.

For nine years Spain attempted to cultivate a green economy under a carbon cap-and-trade system. The result: 2.2 jobs were eliminated for every green job created -- and only one-in-10 of those were permanent.

This nation doesn't need a $150 billion tutorial on what doesn't work.

Recycling centers close, eliminating 'green' jobs (LA Times)

Recycling centers across California are closing, and scores of troubled youths are being tossed from "green" jobs onto unemployment rolls in the wake of Sacramento's raid on bottle deposit funds.

California's recycling treasury, filled by consumers' nickel and dime deposits on drink containers, had hummed along successfully for two decades until state officials left it nearly bankrupt after taking $451 million out to help balance the budget.

The unredeemed deposits that subsidized recycling facilities and such projects as a local conservation corps are virtually gone, leaving the programs in the lurch.

Swiss apple is key to Michelle Obama's youthful looks

According to the US edition of Vogue, the First Lady buys a £215 serum which uses an extract from the stem cells of the Uttwiler Spätlauber apple.

The variety stays fresh for up to four months after being harvested, long after other varieties have become wrinkled.

Used in creams and serums, stem cells from the fruit are said to stimulate human skin stem cells, thereby protecting skin cell regeneration and delaying the onset of wrinkles.

It is being hailed in the cosmetic world as an exciting anti-ageing breakthrough and has been snapped up by around 100 beauty firms in Europe, Asia, and the United States, including LancĂ´me and Chantecaille.
