McClatchy to lift company-wide wage freeze

CEO Gary Pruitt announced today the McClatchy company will lift the company-wide wage freeze that has been in effect for more than a year. I'll have more later. If you have details or more info, email me or post it in comments.

What good is lifting the freeze while properties such as the Miami Herald are laying people off and cutting the work schedule in several departments. If there is money for raises, why the cutbacks etc?

seriously? how about you give us back that pay cut?

Your next evaluation merit raise verdict after the freeze was lifted:
"You exceeded all expectations but because of our current budget crisis, we can't give you a raise. We do have some nice company coffee cups. Would you like one of those? And thank you for all that you do!"

Say, any back-freeze money coming our way? I didn't think so. How about 401k match? Is it back? Noooo....

So now that we weaned out thousands of people from mcclatchy, the a$$ kissers can get raises again. The publishers will get the bonus now for the mass firings.

Pucker up or you might be next.

They're not restoring frozen pensions either. But hang in there with Gary folks and you too can get a 1 % raise some time next year if he doesn't lay you off before that happens. My money's still on more layoffs in the first quarter.

Raises, if any, will be miniscule and they'll take back any increase in higher health costs. We'll be working for less even if we get a raise.

Complain when they begin the freeze.
Complain when they lift the freeze.

Has anyone here ever had anything nice to say?
Ever had a positive comment?

"Has anyone here ever had anything nice to say?"

No, but then again, that's what kind of damage you do to employee morale (and your company image) when you take the boneheaded McClatchy approach of cutting your way to profitability instead of coming up with new ideas and cultivating talent and creativity in your ranks.

If McClatchy showed an iota of actual respect for their workforce then maybe we'd see some nice comments.

But will they still keep the Socialist-payroll scheme at the Fresno Bee? Two employees whose evaluations both rate excellent. The more senior employee who be default makes more gets a 1% raise while the newer employee who makes less gets a 4% raise.
