Meet Mindworks, the new copy editor at the Miami Herald

A reader pointed me to this comment on Alan Mutter's post on outsourcing newspaper jobs.

Mindworks has been doing some (mostly substandard) copy editing of wire stories for the Miami Herald, so McClatchy is probably one of the two large publishing groups with which the company is in "advanced" stages of negotiation.

Here's a shock: the MindWorks corporate office is in India. I understand MindWorks is being used only for the Herald's international edition. But you know where this is headed, don't you.

McClatchy will outsource whenever and whereever it feels it's cheaper to do so. Look for more copy editing being outsourced.

Mindworks has been editing wire copy for the Herald's local editions for months, not just the international edition (which no longer exists).

Are the Cuban Communist Party news releases exempt from Indian editing?
