More on David Obey and the collapse of the budget agreement - advantage Bush?

The Washington Times notes President Bush has prevailed all year in Iraq war funding show-downs with the Democrats. If Republicans can re-assert themselves as the party of fiscal responsibility, this development will be a boost for the GOP.

"We are holding all the cards," a top House Republican aide said. "There is certainly no need to negotiate things that should be non-negotiable, like funding the troops and holding the line on spending."

After years of zero fiscal discipline, it remains to be seen if the GOP can find the willpower to hold the line on spending.
