Al-Qaeda Jihadist Jose Padilla sentenced to 17 years

Al Qaeda terrorist Jose Padilla was sentenced Tuesday to a term of 17 years, 4 months in prison for conspiracy and terror-related charges. The sentence was based on Padilla's 2007 conviction following a jury trial. After only a day and a half of deliberations, the jury found Padilla guilty on all counts. Padilla was born in Brooklyn and converted to Islam while serving time in prison for aggravated assualt. He was arrested in 2002. Prior to his trial, Padilla was designated as an "enemy combatant" by the Bush administration. Padilla's attorneys, of course, say they plan to appeal the sentence. (This case has already been to the Supreme Court and has been reviewed at different levels... can't these attorneys do something productive with their lives?!?)
