Dramatic spike in number of weapons caches located in Iraq - up 300% in Adamiyah district

Iraqi police and coalition forces have seen a dramatic spike in weapons caches located in Iraq, according to the Multi-National Force - Iraq. In Adamiyah, 48 weapons caches have been located since early November when volunteers first began manning checkpoints and other guard positions.

Here is a summary of weapons caches located in the past 8 days alone:

Eighty five 57mm anti-aircraft projectiles located December 29 in Adamiyah (info here).

A cache of five shotguns of various types, two black powder rifles, 14 flintlock pistols and six handguns, six knives of various lengths and sizes, a hatchet, a bow and two phone cards located by a joint patrol January 1 in Rashid district; 155 mm artillery round with detonation cord attached, four 107 mm rockets, three pineapple grenades, 170 pounds of homemade explosives, a satchel charge, two electronic initiators and 15 blasting caps located on January 2 in Rashid district (info here).

Seven 85 mm rockets, one 73 mm rocket, ten 82 mm mortar rounds, two 57 mm mortar rounds, two 60 mm mortar rounds, two rocket-propelled grenade launchers and two 40 mm explosive projectiles located January 1 in Tuwaitha (info here).

One hundred twenty three 20 mm rounds located in Sabbah Nissan December 31 (info here).

And coalition forces have a new plan to deal with terrorists dumb enough to try to bury weapons caches near a canal.
