SAN JOSE, Calif. - MediaNews Group Inc., owner of the San Jose Mercury News, has named one of its executives, David Butler, to be editor of the newspaper. Butler, vice president for news for MediaNews, will assume the Mercury News post immediately as Executive Editor Carole Leigh Hutton steps down, publisher Jeff Kiel said Thursday.
Denver-based MediaNews acquired the Mercury News along with the Monterey County Herald and Contra Costa Times from McClatchy (nyse: MNI - news - people ) Co. in 2006 in a complex deal valued at $1 billion. The San Jose newspaper was previously owned by Knight Ridder, which put itself up for sale in 2005 amid pressure from shareholders.
This blog is mainly about the spectacular train wreck at The Sacramento Bee and its parent company, the McClatchy Company. But I also post about current events, the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, politics, anything else that grabs my attention. Take a look around this blog, hope you enjoy it.
