John McCain is now the "Presumptive Nominee." By racking up multiple victories and hundreds of delegates, McCain gave a thumping to his main rival, Mitt Romney on Tuesday.
Tally as of 10:15 PM PST:
MCCAIN: AZ, CA, CT, DE, IL, MO, NJ, NY, OK
ROMNEY: CO, MA, MN, MT, ND, UT
HUCKABEE: AL, AR, GA, TN, WV
McCain faces opposition from heavyweights in the GOP's conservative base, including radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh, blogger/commentator Michelle Malkin, and, James Dobson, head of Focus on the Family. The chasm is deep. It will take more than just "reaching out" to conservatives. McCain will need to demonstrate some come-to-Jesus moments on immigration and judges and tax cuts. Otherwise, come November, the GOP won't have enough enthusiastic volunteers/voters to have a shot of winning.
McCain's best news of the night? It now looks like McCain will face the ideal GOP opponent, Hillary Clinton.
UPDATE: 10:54 PM: Henry Gomez at Babalu Blog is not happy with the McCain victory.
