John Kerry: "On September 11 the US was basically at peace"

Talk about colossal ignorance. John Kerry's latest take on the war on terror is that the US was "basically at peace" on 9/11. Briefing Room:
Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) believes that on September 11 "we were basically at peace."

Asked to clarify his remarks, specifically asking about the attacks on the U.S.S. Cole during Barack Obama campaign conference call, Kerry said, "well, we hadn't declared war," The Hill's Sam Youngman reports.

Asked if al Qaeda was a threat at the time, the 2004 Democratic presidential nominee said, "well yes, obviously they were a threat. But, fundamentally we were not at war at that point in time."

Al-Qaeda declared war on us long before 9/11, evidenced by earlier attacks: USS Cole bombing in 2000, first World Trade Center bombing in 1993, two embassy bombings in the 90s. You can stick your head in the sand if you want, but that doesn't stop al-Qaeda.
.
Sobering thought of the day: this clown came pretty close to becoming Commander in Chief in the 2004 election.

AJStrata thinks this shows the Dems' latest strategy is to label Bush and McCain "war-mongers."
