The Kansas City Star's new editor says the newspaper will reduce its staff by an unspecified amount as tough times continue for the industry.
The word came from Mike Fannin, who was named as editor Thursday. He succeeded Mark Zieman, who became the newspaper's president and publisher in March.
The Star's Sacramento-based parent company, The McClatchy Co. (NYSE: MNI), named Zieman as president and publisher of the paper on March 6. Zieman succeeded Mac Tulley, who left Jan. 28 to take a job at
MediaNews Group Inc.
In a Friday story in The Star, Zieman said the paper will reduce staff "in every division" but gave no specifics.
