Zogby: most Americans aren't impressed with media's coverage of Iraq... 80% say coverage is "poor" or "fair"... just 18% say "good" or "excellent"

Most Americans think the media's coverage of the Iraq war stinks, according to a study released this week.

A new study commissioned by The Poynter Institute to learn more about Among participants of the online survey, conducted by Zogby International, 47 percent described the coverage as "poor" and 33 percent rated it "fair." About 16 percent called it "good," while 2 percent regarded it as "excellent."
McClatchy's coverage of the war is the probably the worst of the major US news outlets. Instead of giving readers information on developments in the war, McClatchy chose to run endless stories about Abu Ghraib and Blackwater and problems with the embassy construction. McClatchy even participated in whipping up anti-US hysteria: one McClatchy reporter, Nancy Youssef, went on left-wing radio and gave interviews about US Marines supposedly committing cold-blooded murder at Haditha. (After the Marines were acquitted, do you think she gave a follow-up interview?)
.
Then there is McClatchy's bureau chief, Leila Fadel. She says her focus is on the victims of the Iraq war, not US accomplishment.
.
Do Americans know the heroes of Fallujah or Anbar? McClatchy reporters never got around to informing readers about the Americans who sacrificed and accomplished - they were too busy doing stories on American failure.
.
No wonder Americans don't like the mainstream media.
