Time to meet John Walcott, the leader of McClatchy's impressive team of fact-checkers.
.
.
Last week I told you about the team of journalists and investigators who were assembled by McClatchy to fact-check last week's VP debate. According to this article, the fact-checkers were:
William Douglas, Hannah Allam, Jonathan S. Landay, Renee Schoof, Warren P. Strobel, John Walcott, Nancy A. Youssef, and the staff of the Anchorage Daily News.
This impressive team -- seven reporters plus "the staff of the Anchorage Daily News" -- found nine Palin misstatements but just one Biden misstatement.
Even though Walcott's team had trouble finding Biden gaffes, other investigators didn't seem to have the same problem as McClatchy. Investors Business Daily documented nine Biden fibs/misstatements; the New York Post found several more; Karl Rove found ten; Ace found fourteen. The McCain campaign lists fourteen.
John Walcott is bureau chief for McClatchy. He was with Knight Ridder before it was bought by McClatchy. According to this site, he has been in journalism for many years. As Washington bureau chief, he's in charge of making sure the job gets done. Accountability, responsibility, results -- the buck stops with him.
What to do about the failure of Walcott's fact-checkers? Maybe Walcott should get a new team of fact-checkers. Or, maybe he needs to check himself into a clinic to address Palin Derangement Syndrome (PDS).
.
I don't know what the problem is, I only know something has gone haywire at McClatchy's DC bureau.
