Coming: an interesting week at McClatchy

With so many serious issues swirling around McClatchy right now, this could be a very interesting week. Here are some questions that might get answered this week:

  • McClatchy's share price hit an all-time low on Friday -- has MNI seen the bottom yet?
  • Rumored layoffs at the Kansas City Star -- will they be announced this week?
  • Recognizing Gannett employees are facing challenges and cutbacks, CEO Craig Dubow just announced a voluntary pay cut -- will Gary Pruitt follow suit?
  • Will we hear more info about other cost-cutting measures (reduction of hours, etc?) this week?

As always, I'll have the latest news for you today, so keep checking back.

Well looks like the KC Star got their readers to write articles for them. Yup, one whole page in todays paper the section being called "mom2mom". Their called "blog excerpts". Remember when they were advertsing for readers to write stories and they couldn't pay them but offered space in the digital world.

Please....are we really going to pay to read this? Are we really that kind of suckers?

This is happening on a day that cuts might be made in the newsroom of the REAL REPORTERS. Today should be the day we cancel our subscriptions.

Take USA Today, NY Times or get you news on TV or read a book.

Annnnnnd printing the readers blog. How tacky can't you write your own articles? Or has management got rid of all the REAL newspaper staff?

I just went to the KC Star web site to find out about the cuts being made today. THEY ARE SO ASHAMED OF THEM THEY ARE NOT THERE. Yet they have all the other business news in layoffs.
They don't even report their own news.

They are a real class organization

On the past rounds of cutoffs, they've waited until everyone was notified before posting the story.

11:04 Last timed you mean the tiny little itty bitty article they ran? Let's just see if they post the WHOLE story. Maybe you should read the posting on Bottomline.

If they don't post it on the Star web site maybe you can come back here with the WHOLE story. We would appreciate it.
