This blog is mainly about the spectacular train wreck at The Sacramento Bee and its parent company, the McClatchy Company. But I also post about current events, the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, politics, anything else that grabs my attention. Take a look around this blog, hope you enjoy it.

See MNI really collapsing, off 21 percent in early trading and hitting new lows. For God's sake, Sacto, wake up and realize MNI's business plan is not just broken, it is dead, dead, dead. You are paid the big bucks to run a healthy company. So do something.
Actually they are just back to where they were yesterday morning. That closing price was bogus. MNI never traded 22% higher during the trading session yesterday.
Modesto Bee hurting for subscriptions? I got a letter in the mail yesterday. It opened with a big header...We miss you! ...as a subscriber... They really want me to subscribe as their offer was better than the employee discount they gave me before I was laid off. A one year subscriptioin: 7 days a week for $39.99 or 4 day delivery for $24.99. So does any one know what their circulation numbers are?
They claim it is about 85000, but, if you walk into any mail room and check the stacker count you'll find that is almost always grossly over stated after you subtract waste. To know the actual circulation of any paper you have to go look for yourself. They all lie about it.
Some like the KC Star have been caught red handed several times over the last century padding their numbers to boost advertising rates.
Isn't it funny how they pad their circulation numbers at the KC Star but when you asked Hazan what the employee count was the day of the layoff she didn't know. I guess lie is something that maybe their good at.
If they told you exactly how many employees they had in any given department, CFA's could get the real picture of just how bad they are hurting. You see the announced layoffs, buyouts etc. What you don't see are the sudden rise in numbers of those harassed or intimidated out of work, fired for cause, voluntary separation and attrition.
Lying is what they do best, but unknown to most, the majority of their lying is in what they don't say. It is the culture that you find in corporate print. You can fill volumes with what they don't print, but, you can fill trash cans with what they do.
He plays with words. They substitute "readership" for "circulation" and define "readership" by "clicks" to make his case that is not supported by the fact that circulation is DOWN.
That is why I like used car salesmen more than media people. At least he is only trying to sell me a lemon once.
I just wanted to say Goodbye to the 12 employees that were given notice in September at The Modesto Bee. Today for most if not all is there final day. God Bless you and your family.
How can you tell when McClatchy is lying? They issue a press release! They figure every paper sold will be read by at least 3 pairs of eyes, so they inflate the reader ship.
My thoughts go out to my friends at the Modesto Bee who finished their career there today. It was hard saying goodbye Sept. 28 when we walked out the door for the last time. I remember the receptionist at the front counter, I hope you enjoy retirement. Best wishes to all and good luck finding a job.
Ditto 6:42 Been there and still looking for a job after 3 months while Gary still has his. Things will never change for us we lost but I know to them they don't care.
To 6:50...lets show that rotten #%&* Pruitt that we can come out on top! The best revenge is success! He has no idea what hard work is! He has CEO arms...they are "glow in the dark" white from wearing suits all day and his muscles are like noodles cause the hardest thing he does is push people around. The rank and file of the papers know hard work and what a work ethic really is.

You we're right all along.
Thank you, but, it was elementary as I can see every single share traded on a daily basis as it happens.
Ironically, financed by McClatchy buying Knight Ridder!

Chris H told us that circulation wasn't down :)

9:18 If you only knew.
If there was some way that anonymous really meant that, you would be surprised at what you would learn.
9:16 Chris H said circulation not down, are you kidding me?????? That is really scary if he really said that. What paper is he talking about????
