Urgent meeting at McClatchy Interactive (updated -- lots of info in comments)

From comments:
Ominous event tomorrow at McClatchy Interactive. Hastily called all-hands staff meeting Friday (tomorrow) at 7:30 AM. Corporate execs will be on site. Very short notice, staff was first notified only earlier today.

This comment was posted Wednesday night, so I'm thinking the "Friday tomorrow" meeting means Thursday, not Friday. But I could be wrong. If you have more info, leave in comments.

The bottom has gone out of Internet ads, so this meeting comes as no suprise. While Howard Weaver boasts about MNI's interactive audience, the reality is that the eyeball response is dismal and MNI hardly matches great Web sites like the NY Times and WPo. Bloviating Weaver no longer earning his $500,000 salary. Too bad. He's a goner, too. Won't be missed. Promised a lot, never delivered.

SHip the Interactive stuff off to India is my recommendation. Happy Tweetering to Howard, MNI's chief twit.

The way McClatchy makes decisions they will promote him.

They already send a lot of interactive to India. Thanks for the suggestion though - you obviously care nothing for all of the graphic designers in the US that are constantly getting laid off thanks to outsourcing. Outsourcing sucks - I don't care how cheap it is. Designers need to make a living here too.

Maybe he is up for sale.

7:19 Maybe I was one of them.

Chris Hendricks is going to be there.

Who is Chris Hendricks?

Anonymous said...

He's a McLatchy, (cough) "visionary"

Has an MBA and an excuse for everything.

Chris Hendricks is the corporate VP of Interactive and Pres of MI. He's been here a lot lately so him simply being here doesn't indicate anything in particular.

Yes the meeting was called hastily but it is voluntary - not all hands on deck. He will be going over "our company, the economy, and other topics that affect McClatchy Interactive". From what I here there are several meetings scheduled later in the day so that is the reason for the early meeting. Although admittedly it doesn't sound good.

There is much to be said about the dire situations in the journalism profession.
But I don't see that here.
Readily posting rumor and innuendo belongs on Fox News, not people who are allegedly journalists.
What's the point of this blog? "Revenge"? Against whom? Why bother? Get on with your life!

7:26 - If you were, I feel sorry for you. I'm a designer constantly in fear of being outsourced totally and laid off like many of my friends and co-workers in the past year. I hate it when people off-handedly recommend outsourcing though - like it's no big deal. "Who cares about the artists as long as you save the writers?" Well, the artists obviously care and so do the customers that pay the bills when they get sub-par designs back from Manila or India.

6:58 Thanks for your concern some times it's hard not to be a little bitter over a job lost and sent to India.

Well, I can tell you they need new management in KC. What remains are the proteges of Art Brisbane (who ran the thing into the ground during his tenure by kissing the backsides of the local establishment (talk about not speaking truth to power. Indeed, in KC The Star silences those who do speak truth to power. I digress).

The place is so top heavy now it's not funny. They keep a dozen left wing kooks on the editorial board and all of Zeiman's pals and get rid of the reporters and real workers. It's a joke and they don't care as long as they're still in charge and can milk it for as long as they can.

8:50 You couldn't be so right. Ditto

What really disgusts me is that a local Kansas prosecutor was trying for years to get to the bottom of a child rape cover-up by billion dollar a year, national organization Planned Parenthood. McClatchy owned Kansas City Star did everything in their power to derail the investigation because they are so radically pro-abortion. If you research this you'll find that in every instance across the country for years Planned Parenthood lawyers use the same certain tactics to divert the public's attention from their clients criminality. They begin with "Patient Privacy". The prosecutor/investigator is falsely accused of trying to find out patient's names and that he will release them to the public. Total lie. The second tactic they use if the prosecutor/investigator has ever publicly stated a belief in a higher power he will be characterized as a religious fanatic trying to restrict women's rights.
Did the Kansas City Star ever look into the serious allegations that Planned Parenthood isn't reporting all instances of child rape nation-wide like the law demands they do? Of course not, the Star which won Planned Parenthood's Top Award in 2006, constantly, non-stop parroted the PP lawyer diversion tactics VERBATIM!
Yeah, so much for speaking truth to power!
