Sacramento Bee pushing McClatchy's Obama book

This ad for McClatchy's Obama Book appeared in the Sacramento Bee yesterday. The ad is about 5 inches by 5 inches. The price for the book wasn't printed, so I called -- the book is $22.95 for subscribers, plus $6.75 shipping. Price for non-subscribers: $27.95. If you order now, you get a FREE commemorative photo. The guy on the phone said the book will be available "early February."

The "Truth to Power" people at McClatchy are hawking Obama mugs, mousepads and t-shirts, too. Awesome!

This is so embarrassing. It kills any shred of objectivity that may have lingered at McClatchy newspapers. Shameful.

It makes me wonder if the topic of, "How do we claim, "Independent Objectivity" after something like this", ever comes up at high level meetings?

Then I think about who is present at those meetings and the answer is clearly, "NO" If one were to combine the foresight of the collective, it would rival that of a herd of earthworms.

Anonymous 10:38. Also I wonder about the ethics of a news organization trying to make money -- selling mousepads, mugs, t-shirts, books -- off somebody it is reporting on.

Has this been reported on E&P or Romenesko? On second thought, they'd probably applaud the action.

When we used to do those special commemorative puff books, they would never sell well at the inflated price structure.

Later in the year, those books would get dumped on local book retailers and get tossed out in front of the store, marked-down 80 percent.

This ego puff book will be no different.

...Silly McClatchy Watch. McClatchy never reported on Obama, they shilled for him. They're shilling for him still. Cheerleaders aren't expected to be objective and it is not a conflict of anything to sell images and fawning praises of the one you love. You can't violate ethics you never had.
..I think it's cute and loveable and in your heart of hearts, you probably do too. They can't make money selling Truth because they wouldn't know it if it bit them, so they sell " Crap to sycophants ".

....I think I've found McClatchy's new motto !

...Confirming what 2:30 said above, I checked with BoobyHatchy Watch and they report that Elvis has definitely left the building and was last seen driving a SacBee delivery truck ( last one extant ) towards Modesto.

It also ran in the Tri-City Herald.

Anon. 5:17 PM,
You should have warned us. This link needed a mega barf alert.

All those fawning headlines in one place is just too much. How are we going to withstand this barrage of phony claptrap?
