State jobs for the laid off workers at the Rocky Mountain News??

Some staff at the Rocky Mountain News are Twittering the last hours of the paper. Via Twitter:
Gov. Bill Ritter just walked into the newsroom. One editor's joke, "State jobs for everybody!" Ritter laughed. We applauded.
It sounds like a joke but in reality, government money for laid off reporters is starting to roll in. In Minnesota, the state government is training laid off reporters "how to tell their stories on the Internet". Which seems like something people should learn on their own without government help.
