It is really nice to know, that while McClatchy falls apart around us. Layoffs everywhere, people just being tossed out. That our fearless leader still managed to make sure he got his 5 million dollar bonus this year. That was enough to keep every laid off employee working for another year or two. Everyone should send him a letter of thanks for a job well done.

The myrtle beach sun news was a thriving enterprise when night ridder owned it, then in came Mcclatchy and one lay off after another, outsourcing everything, and now more layoffs, and the place is pretty much closed up. Thanks Gary, a job very well done

Gary is skimming the profits off the old Knight Ridder papers and the $ goes to corporate to pay off the $2 billion in debt Gary engineered.

Sweet!

Yes, you are correct about mcclatchy ruining everything.greed, thats what it is. besides when are people going to realize that it is upper management that needs to be cut and eliminated. they are the ones sitting on their butts doing absolutly nothing all day, but comming up with bad ideas. they have not a clue what goes on outside the building or even in the building at night. their little world revolves around their 9-5 hidden in that little office. headlines routinely suck and do not attract reader attention. same story will run over and over, till poeple are sick to death of it. local news should reamin in local section not on front page. papers should be on time and early every day of the week. hard to sell papers when people are out there looking for them at 4:30-5 already and we are still sitting waiting for press to print them. anybody and I mean anybody could turn the sunnews around and increase circulation dramaticaly, with a few simple changes. instead, now it will be out later than ever, thus even less sales, more home delivery cancelations. just look what they did to sunday circulation. most drivers are still out there putting papers together at 8-9am or even later. how can you sell what is not there for people to buy? in a way, it is a blessing for most of us to get out of there, besides rumor has it that myrtle beach herald is going to go 7 days a week and is looking to hire many people. I won't stick around till the end, I'm outta here

What about nonbiased reporting? Remember the “SCANDAL” that Joe the plumber owed back taxes? It was enough fodder for the liberal MSM for weeks! Now, Obama is appointing people that didn’t pay their taxes.

Where are the articles denouncing the tax evaders in Obama Rogues Gallery? Timothy Geitner got a free pass, and Joe the plumber is deemed too inept to ask a simple question.

Even the liberal journalists must be questioning this sort of reporting. If not, then they will never admit what forced people to seek the truth elsewhere, and once again, the end justifies the end.

Lean Times Force Sports Illustrated Editor Terry McDonell to Watch the Super Bowl From New York
by Reid Pillifant |
****
However the KC Scar is ‘flush’ with enough cash to send three reporters?

Jason $$$$ Whitlock of the KC Star did go to the Super Bowl. It would have been a good opportunity for Zieman to prove his cost cutting efforts were serious.

Sound thinking from a KC Star employee:
Comment: Stop sending three reporters to a Super Bowl in which the local team is not a participant.

If across the board wage cuts and unpaid days off are part of the plan for all some or part of the McClatchy papers in an effert to save money and pay down the debt.

Will some of those of savinga goes to the family and senior exectives as a back door way of getting their bonus?

We know there won't be any bonus for senior management, but will this be a ploy to get around this.

always read on here how liberal all the MNI papers are but I never read anything about which papers the right-wing, conservative folks agree with. Are there any such papers out there? Could you please name a few so I can check their web site and see what “real” news I’m missing? Since I’m a registered republican that works at a McClatchy newspaper, I would love to be able to see what sort of “news” or spin I am being denied. I feel smart enough to decide if what I am reading is biased or not so please help me to see what kind of news you would like to see in the MNI papers. I’m not saying that I agree with the stuff we print, instead I just want to know where I go to get the opposing views. I’m in production so I don’t have a voice in what is printed but I am a customer and that does count for something, I hope. As I have said on here before, I work at my hometown newspaper, a newspaper I delivered as a kid and a paper that almost all of my neighbors take. They take it because it is their hometown paper and it helps them to stay in touch with their community. They may not agree with what is written each day or with the people that write it, but they are smart enough to decide that for themselves. And when they don’t agree with what they read, they don’t wish that the paper would close it’s doors and put everyone out of a job, nor do they imply that they would like to see harm come to someone like I have read on here concerning the president. They discuss the way they feel, they write a letter or email and they give their 2 cents worth. I guess that is all I’m doing here and let me say up front that I apologize to anyone that does not agree with me and at the same time I respect your opinion so please respect mine.

11:06 nice try troll but no cigar.

Nice try, 11:18 your a moron and I respect your position as a moron and I wish you the best in becoming the best moron you can be. Come up with something better then just "troll" or is that the best your little brain can come up with?

How many times will employees go through ‘the talk’ before it becomes clear to everyone, that ‘the talk’ has a lot more to do with how hard you are expected to work, right up to the day you are let go, than what your company will do for you?

Anonymous said...

"Since I’m a registered republican that works at a McClatchy newspaper…"
Blah, blah, blah.

Does your paper carry the AP news? If they do, then you know exactly what posters are talking about. If your small paper is still printing jelly recipes as news, then watch the birthday card section. Everyone over 65 are they?

Anonymous said...

11:37, I'm sure there is a point in there somewhere; unfortunately it appears as though it’s the top of your head. Could you break that down in terms that someone other then you can understand?

Anonymous said...

And yes, I believe that we do carry stuff from the AP.

Anonymous said...

Not sure if we have a recipe section but certain we don't do birthday cards. Are you saying the older folks should not be reading? Or that they don't count?

Anonymous said...

My aunt lives in a small burg, a hotshot bought the local paper, and immediately dismissed the volunteer ‘reporters’ from the surrounding smaller burgs. He found the ‘who visited who’ news just too droll. His added worldly, and real news didn’t seem to set well with the local folks.

Comments were mostly against his new format, but the best comment was, “I heard that last week on TV, and it was boring then.” Last I saw the paper, the main feature story was what to do with all the berries coming ripe at the same time.

Anonymous said...

You got me there 11:53, hard to argue with that line of reasoning. Your name Forest by any chance?

Anonymous said...

“Are you saying the older folks should not be reading? Or that they don't count?”

How far out in the country are you? They are not the readers of the future. We are talking about the future. That was a question that said more about you than you probably want known, for discussion purposes anyway.

Anonymous said...

I’m living in the present, not the future and the older folks that read the paper are the same ones that fought for your freedom and your right to post your nonsense on here. Instead of wondering about the future you should be wondering when it’s time to take your meds again.

Anonymous said...

12:02, does mommy pay for your internet?

Anonymous said...

“And yes, I believe that we do carry stuff from the AP.”

Did you carry a counter opinion of the truth?

Anonymous said...

12:09 there is no way to keep this up as your disability is showing and I feel as though it would be unfair to ask you to give us more feedback from the bizzaro world in which you live. Take your meds and try to get some rest, you need it.

Anonymous said...

I know exactly what Anon. 12:09 is saying about the AP and their biased reporting. Don’t you know about it? Maybe that is one of the reasons newspapers have become dinosaurs, and have no place in the future.

Anonymous said...

Anon 11:37 Hits a home run:

Ok 12:26, so back to the original question, where do I find a newspaper that shows a different point of view? Where is the newspaper that you would subscribe to?

Anonymous said...

I would bet that 11:37 and 12:26 are the same person.....

Anonymous said...

"I’m living in the present, not the future"

And, your future is going down the drain while you make leaps in the discussion like, [seniors] "same ones that fought for your freedom.” That is an old dodge. How did you make a leap from newspapers trying to survive in the future, to an old ‘saw’ like that? Just keep hiding behind platitudes, however, I am not sure they will pay your bills.

Starting with 11:06 we gots us a whole lot of da sock puppet doin' his thang here.

Anonymous said...

Will some of those of savinga goes to the family and senior exectives as a back door way of getting their bonus?
---------------
No, they don't do bonuses now. They call them, "long term compensation" under their "employee retention program"

Anonymous said...

Sock puppets is how you were conceived..... Your hood is showing Mr.Duke

The truth is 9:10 that the KC Star can afford to send a reporter to the Super Bowl whether you like him or not. They are one of the few papers making money. Yes, I can't stand him either. The truth is the KC Star has to let people go because McClatchy bought a company they couldn't afford. The Star has always made a good profit.

Anonymous said...

Solution close/sell all California and Florida papers and the rest of us will be fine.

Anonymous said...

anon 1:46 is correct. Star-Tel still making money. or was.

still have $$$ to send entertainment reporters to chase stories, just not $$$ to keep reporters who write local news.

and for the guy looking for "the other side," were you awake when the S-T sucked up during W's 8 years? check Bud Kennedy's columns. You'll like them. Or pro-gun JR Labbe. It's there...with the opposite, too. There are both Republicans and Democrats working right alongside each other. You are seeing what you want to see.

Anonymous said...

“The truth is 9:10 that the KC Star can afford to send a reporter to the Super Bowl whether you like him or not.”

Not while they layoff employees, should the Star send three reporters to a GAME. If they make so much profit, why are they making cuts at all? Believe me, I am not the only one that can’t stand Jason. After Lokeman, he was #2 on my disgusting person list. There is no hope for the Star, if this sort of thing continues.

Anonymous said...

The Z-man says, “still developing our plan to address these expense cuts.”
He really meant after the veeeery important Super Bowl game, right?

Zee Memo:
Mark Zieman, publisher of The Star, said in a memo to employees that the newspaper was "still developing our plan to address these expense cuts. Unfortunately, we know these cuts will include job eliminations

Anonymous said...

California & Florida go out of business. The rest of us will be saved. Oh, thank God Gary will be also gone.

At the bottomline.com, there was an article about the reporters going to the big game.

Um, what if is required by the credential process?

Anonymous said...

Man, if a paper can send three reporters to cover news people want, more power to them. Sports sells papers.

Anonymous said...

Ok 12:26, so back to the original question, where do I find a newspaper that shows a different point of view? Where is the newspaper that you would subscribe to?
==================================
Great question. The answer is you can't.

You either suscribe to many papers (too costly, too bias and useless) Or, as MNI and their ilk forced us to, we continue to use our interent connections to find the many free web sites we like.

That's news in this day and age. MNI and their ilk lost their chance.

Guys, truth, where do you get your news from?

Anonymous said...

"Sports sells papers."
Yeah right!

I don't know one person that reads the paper for sports. Dream on, that is a dead end. In a few clicks, I have results for all sports, commentary, rumors, and whatever amuses me that day. I would not read the column of some halfwit that has become stale at his job. Give it up, I don’t even want to touch inky broadsheets. I am in the majority of people my age, newspapers are over.

We are talking about big Jason at the Red Star, aren’t we? Who can say if he helps circulation numbers? That assumption may be as phony as Lokeman’s made-up popularity. Did everyone see his photo with the two ladies, one making lewd gestures? Geez the Star has bottomed out, and there is no hope unless Zee gets out NOW! Maybe Jas will have some more girlie pictures for us, at least the expenditure won’t be all wasted. The KC bloggers are way better than the KC Scar’s anybody.

Anonymous said...

------------
The Wall Street Journal. They keep the editorial page on the editorial page, not sprinkled throughout the front page. They also don't rotate the same stories over and over again for weeks on end.

For local stuff, blogs, PD reports, news aggregates except of course Topix or Yahoo who just report AP Spam and McClatchy crap.

Anonymous said...

If he does it is online only and only because they despise him. That is next to Zieman probably the most hated man in KC...well, him or Mike Hendricks.

Dude, THANKS It's great to know where and why you go where you go.

To me it's clear that any one paper can't fill the news void (WSJ aint bad though)

So then how can MNI not go bankrupt? It will, and soon
