This blog is mainly about the spectacular train wreck at The Sacramento Bee and its parent company, the McClatchy Company. But I also post about current events, the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, politics, anything else that grabs my attention. Take a look around this blog, hope you enjoy it.

Week 2 Jim "Oops" Witt resignation watch. Witt still has his job while he plans to can others at the Fort Worth Startlegram. Do the honorable thing, Jim. Resign.
Jim Witt is a dick. He manages in a bully style, unless of course you are in his Elvis club (discussed last week) and kiss his ass.
So I hate Elvis, don't kiss his ass, and expect to be canned on this round. Unemployment will be less stressful - for me and many others.
Our paper is pathetic, smaller and smaller everyday. You can read everything online for free or just go to the DMN for the same news (thank you content sharing).
Business and sports used to be our strongest sections, I feel bad for both departments. What they produce and what they are capable of, are two different things. But Jim keeps saying we have so many readers, we do a great job, we are the best - we we we! Come on Jim - do you think I or anyone else believes you?
Looking forward to unemployment, this week, or next week or the week after......
B-4 Sac. Bee Feb 10 has an obituary for Test Pilot Robert Ferry. Para 9: "The light observation turban-powered helicopter..." One can remember Popeye pulling on a malefactor's turban, causing him to spin like a helicopter!
Your obituary reference brought back a horrible memory from Nov. 10, 2006, in The Sun News. The copy editors must have had the night off for this obituary:
"Mr. Manure Derelict...passed away on Thursday morning."
I assure you that was not the poor man's correct name.
"These are two papers with growing ambitions and shrinking staffs."
Top Pittsburgh and Philadelphia Dailies Now Sharing Content "We exchange budgets and except for the most highly-competitive stories, we will be sharing," said Inquirer Editor William Marimow (left). "You will see more Pittsburgh Post-Gazette bylines and photos in the Inquirer." Adds Post-Gazette Editor David Shribman...
A Toronto free daily newspaper has laid off all of its staff writers –but it won't be without copy for its pages because it will be using non-paid interns instead.
Metro, which has published in Toronto since 2000, terminated four unionized staff writers last week and two managers, citing economic reasons.
Keep an eye on what is happening in the S.F. bay area. Transcontinental is gearing up its press room, then BYE BYE SF Chron and others. No word on how many presses are being installed but to print a paper in Fremont and have it in Modesto or Sacramento in an hour or so is NOT far fetched. Will the New Bees be printed in Fremont? Will one of the bay area papers buy up whats left of McClatchy? Will "Dudly Do Right" finally get fired? Stay tuned boys and girls as "Nell" lays stranded on the railroad tracks while the the train speeds on.
In most companies, the email a certain executive editor sent out would be more than enough to get him fired. How many newsroom jobs would his salary save?
Perusing Kansas.com tonight, I noticed that the AP story on the winner of the Westminster Dog Show displays a picture of a dog that is not the winner. Hardly earth-shaking -- but just one more example of decline. Is it that easy to mess up the AP feed? Eagle's story The real winner

What happened to copy editors?

"She's going down!"
"Should we abandon ship?"
"Yes, the coolies (interns)are on the job!"
