Awareness Information:

More Star furlough protocol -“This is legally different from a vacation day...”

From: Ruth‘s Blog or
“Ruth’s Kick Ass Web Log”

"When you are off for furlough days you are not working for the Star, We can't be calling you and you should totally remove yourself from work for the day or week you are gone. This is [legally different from a vacation day] where you are still being paid...so as we start this process over the next couple of months[ be sure to stay clear of any work contact] when you are supposed to be off."

Can we start to identify which "Star" it is since there is more than one.

There is no need. Hyphenation protocol, age, and level of corruption assigns the KC Star the "Star" logo as it's hyphenation precludes the name. I.E. The Red - Star, The KC Scar - Star, The Fallen - Star etc.

All others are trailing hyphenations with less distinguished record of slime and systemic violations of journalistic ethics. These carry traditional identifiers as Star - Telegram, Star - Tribune, etc.

"Dinosaurs to hummingbirds," that is a good one.

"Dinosaurs don’t turn into hummingbirds overnight, and neither is the P-I likely to make a successful transition despite good metrics."

A KC blogger notes that MNI is still listing job openings. Three in Alaska, weren’t employees just laid off at the ADN?

Hey, Zieman! What’s with you?
What is this now, DAY 45?
Is this just your way of spitting in the face of all the employees you’ve mismanaged out of a job? Or are you thinking of starting a “In Memoriam” page for all the people you’ve fired this past year?

Seriously - walk downstairs and introduce yourself to your IT staff. One of them is going to say, “Sure, Mark; we can do that. It’s a simple global search and replace. Plus, we’ll archive her stuff and disable all the links to her. Take…oh, give us an hour? Okay?”
Or…no, tell me you didn’t, right? You didn’t outsource IT to India, right?
Jesus…what an ultra-maroon.

Would you like to put YOUR name with that 9:11?

Anonymous said...

Chances are 9:11 is still drawing a check from the KC Star.

This KC Anonymous poster seems to think the leaks about upcoming layoffs comes from management.

A Business Model

I am starting to wonder if there is anyone left at The Star or McClatchy who has ever run a business. I do not understand why they don't just figure out where they need to get to or what the minimum number of people with which they can run the newspaper is and cut to that point. You can always rehire later. As it stands, they have everyone living in a constant state of fear about when the next round of layoffs will come.

It usually goes like this ...
[Someone in management ALWAYS leak it before it is announced.] The staff then spends a week discussing the rumors of more cuts. Then it is officially announced and the staff spends another two works worrying about their jobs. Then they make the cuts and they spend the next two weeks trying to figure out how to function without the people who were let go.

About the time they get everything back to normal, someone from management leaks news on the next round of cuts and the whole process starts over again. Wouldn't some of the problems be addressed if management quit undermining productivity?
