Anyone have comments on advertising sales division layoffs? I am in retail advertising and want to know my risk of getting laid off. I actually wouldn't mind it... too much stress and we are getting micro-managed in the most horrible way! Not to mention no one has made goal in months and we don't make much salary.

I know there will be some ad layoffs according to some of my friends in the dept. no numbers though. If you are one ,good luck to you and our thoughts will be with you.We should all get together like others and have a toast to the employees who have given their hearts and in cases family lives for these Newspapers. My self I wasn't worried but its midnight and I've been trying to sleep for hours.Since I'm off on Mondays I guess I'll be getting a call letting me know how I and others are affected......Lets party in Clt nomatter what happens.....the Blue Collar worker made the paper or maybe I should say the little people. But dammit I love hearing the Presses Thunder and I bet Rolph is feeling for us all as it has been downhill since he retired.just my opinion......

i just hope they take some of the directors and vps out in lexington and let them suffer the way they have made all of us suffer. probably no such luck though, the vps will keep their jobs till the ship is underwater.

I know a lot of good people in Columbia (The State) who lost their jobs and I'm afraid for the folks I know in Charlotte. Wonder if the publisher will step down?

1:46.....thanks for the concern,we used to have over 40 Journeymen Pressmen here but that days long past, before the announcements today we are working with much less. But the work load has more than doubled,We love what we do and the quality we put out,but we can only do so much before it gets even more dangerous to each person. So as we wait today for the telephone to ring or get called in we can only hope someone will step up and buy The Observer because McClatchy sure is ruining a great and STILL profitable Newspaper, wheather I'm here or not...again,take care all!!!

Aside from Ann Caulkins, every director and vp at the Observer needs to be replaced.

Good luck to all my past friends in Charlotte. I left last year and every time I second guess my decision I hear some of the heinous ways you all are being treated, which serves to reaffirm my decision. Still, for most of my career it was a GREAT place to work, I loved my job, and I really loved the people I worked with.
