Mark Potts: McClatchy isn't having much luck selling the Miami Herald

After a little digging around, Mark Potts has come to the conclusion McClatchy isn't having much luck selling the Miami Herald.
McClatchy has been quietly shopping its flagship paper around for months, The New York Times reported in December. No word if there are any takers, but as with the other attempted sales, no news is probably not good news.
No surprise there. Anybody who is interested in buying the Herald is waiting til the price bottoms out in bankruptcy. Bonus Observation: I'm betting McClatchy will not be able to close the sale of the 10 acre parking lot, even though that $190 million deal is in escrow. (Readers of my blog will recall in December McClatchy granted the buyers a 6 month extension for them to obtain financing -- since then, the economy has only worsened.)

Actually this article was better because Mark apparently doesn't know that the deal that McClatchy has been shopping has been going on since 2005.

This one though is great: http://recoveringjournalist.typepad.com/recovering_journalist/

Those popping noises you hear are the rivets exploding from the hull as the S.S. McClatchy heads under. But don't worry, Howard, shoved as many woman and children over the side as he could to get to his lifeboat. Pruitt still remains on board but he's still drinking champagne and eating caviar because he has a powered motor launch awaiting him for when the boat goes under.
