This blog is mainly about the spectacular train wreck at The Sacramento Bee and its parent company, the McClatchy Company. But I also post about current events, the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, politics, anything else that grabs my attention. Take a look around this blog, hope you enjoy it.

The Lexington Herald-Leader just announced on Friday that they hired 3 people to sell for a auto publication - which is in direct competition with our current auto products. Couldn't they have just let some of the 5 sales reps they laid off do that job?
On another note - there are now 23 sales reps with 8 sales managers... does not make sense.
Well, they couldn't keep 3 of the 5 that they had for the same price. It's much more cost effective to fire your old help and start with a shiny new Obamacorn that you can pay with a promise and a pack of Kools...or...an illegal alien who's already got an established income smuggling drugs and people, but needs a federal tax number.
... Let me address three of the rumors I have already heard:
First of all, there is no danger that The Olympian will disappear. Unlike the Seattle P-I, we are a profitable business and we're making the tough decisions necessary to remain in the black and to outlast the current economic crisis.
Second, The McClatchy Co. is committed to The Olympian and its important role in Thurston County. My appointment represents the best evidence for the veracity of that statement.
Third, neither I nor those who assigned me to this job have any intention of reducing The Olympian's frequency of publication. We are a seven-day-a-week newspaper today, and we will be so tomorrow and the next day.
Second, The McClatchy Co. is committed to The Olympian and its important role in Thurston County. My appointment represents the best evidence for the veracity of that statement.
============================= If that is all you have to go on...time to pack the desk.
6:54 -- I donm't think anybody believes him. He should have said, "My appointment represents the best evidence" The Olympian will get swallowed up by The News Tribune.

2 new columnists bring balance to Herald's lineup (2 conservative columnists)Miami Herald ^
Sunday, March 29, 2009 6:44:08 AM
The Miami Herald finally has added not one, but two, conservative columnists, Jackie Bueno Sousa and Glenn Garvin.
The two new columns bring some political balance to the paper's local opinion writers. Think Leonard Pitts, Carl Hiaasen, Fred Grimm. To be fair, all of the paper's columnists, those three included, are independent-minded, strive to be fair and can surprise you on any given issue. Think Andres Oppenheimer, Myriam Marquez and, of course, Dave Barry. How do you classify them?
That is how it should be. In an era in which the media -- the Web, radio, television and print -- are fragmenting and becoming ever more extremist in appealing to ever finer ideological slices of the audience, most of us in the middle are left out. We're a little to the right on this issue, a little to the left on that one. Today. Tomorrow, we might flip.
Old Gray Lady moving into hospice! --------------- -No Sympathy For Roger Cohen- …industry woes finally reached the Gray Lady. Yes, the powers that be at the NY Times Media Group announced five percent salary cuts for all employees.

I don’t want the MH to get shitcanned too soon. Watching McClatchy twist in the wind has become a sport. You can choose your own MNI fantasy team. KC’s Mark Zippo is my main man. His quarterbacking style is famous, no defense, no lineman, no fair play. His game of thuggery stumbles on. Man, you gotta love this.
You don’t have to think too hard about why Pitts writes a column for the MH. He is a dyed-in-the-wool Socialist in my opinion. It is one thing to say these columnists are paid to have opinions, but it is quite another to hide under this ‘free thinker’ ruse to publish propaganda. The publishing of Castro’s ‘Communist Manifesto’ in itty bitty increments these past weeks is just the last straw.
I doubt even liberals approve of such treachery. Well, that probably is too much to expect from voters that still have tingles up their legs.
A journo friend of mine says, if he gets a pay cut, he’ll be eligible for food stamps. I think that was one of his little jokes, but I am not positive about that.

"As the story of Vice President Joe Biden's daughter's alleged cocaine use heats up, the American public may have many questions, but they would be better served to observe how the media chooses to handle it first."
I know so many college grads that have moved back to live with their parents. I feel sorry for the parents. This ‘while under my roof’ stuff is a guaranteed sticking point from day one.
“Joe Biden's daughter's alleged cocaine use…” Egad, have the dumpster divers been laid off?
Rumors, Joe has to answer these rumors. It as easy as a phone call! Why she may not even be Joe’s daughter. DNA reports, we need medical data, and her pap smear results. Maybe she has a boyfriend? Too many questions, I want answers. Make them up if you have to, but I want copy on my desk stat!
"Isn't she on parole or probation for assault or something like that?" [Biden's daughter]
How the heck would we know? Pravda is not going to give it up. Those little pesky details are better off hidden from people without the mental capacity to discern nuanced news.
There is a rumor that a You Tube video of HopeyChangey stammering and stuttering during a speech when his teleprompter malfunctioned, shows a lady in the audience fainting on cue anyway. It was scrubbed off the net, but maybe someone still has a copy? Anyone see it?
Newspaper's 'Furlough Bank' Makes Forced Time Off a Bit Easier
"We know there were quite a few people who wanted to give up their pay to have the time off," said Randi Bjornstad, president of the newspaper guild in Eugene, Ore., which requested the furlough bank at The Register-Guard. It allows staffers to take an extra week off so others won't have to. - March 27, 2009
I wonder if the Olympian's new publisher really believes what he's saying, because I haven't talked to anyone I know in Thurston County that doesn't think the Olympian will be going away...
If it was so profitable, why were raises so poor there the past five years? Why have there been so many hiring freezes and wage freezes, even before things started getting cut?
How profitable can a newspaper be that's occuping a building that's probably 10 times bigger than what's needed for the staff remaining there? It's got to be worth several people's jobs just to operate such a large structure.
If the paper still remains profitable, let them prove it. Many of the people let go in the last layoff bunch were people who were the hardest workers they had, and had some of the most extensive knowledge. Very little of what's been cut has been deadwood (of course, most of the deadwood is managers).

In a Sunday column, the new publisher of The Olympian says the paper isn't going away, still remains profitable:

People interested in unbiased news are saying,
"Just Go Away"
Put on your listening ears, new man on the job.
MH still spreading propaganda.
“[Leonard Pitts], Carl Hiaasen, Fred Grimm. To be fair, all of the paper's columnists, those three included, are [independent-minded,”]
Who do they think they are shitting? Pitts is an 'In-the-tanker.' Give me a freakin break!
Cancel the MH NOW!
Is Pitts an old KR leftover?
The KR grifters leftovers from the merge seem to have a similar Marxist style.
Knight Ridder never allowed the blatant leftist crap that McClatchy does. Put down that bottle.
Just get between two journos having the KR vs. MNI faultfinding discussion, and watch the sparks fly.
“MNI would be successful had Pruitt not bought KR.”
KR says, MNI is far below their quality of news standards.
Tony Ridder is the bright guy, Pruitt is a dunce.
Sorry, no one stands up for Pruitt.
You get the picture, fighting from within still, is the point to be made. Can’t we just all get along?
A journo friend of mine says, if he gets a pay cut, he’ll be eligible for food stamps. I think that was one of his little jokes, but I am not positive about that.
Food Stamps may be a stretch but he won't be joking when Earned Income Credit becomes a reality.

Isn't she on parole or probation for assault or something like that?
The New York Times is set to impose 5% pay cut on all staff.
An employee writes, “I can’t stay in NYC if I get a pay cut, I can’t make ends meet now.
I ♥ NYC.”
Boo Freakin Hoo, lying doesn’t pay well.
"Isn't she on parole or probation for assault or something like that?"
[Biden's daughter]

TOTUS got mouthy, and accused BOGUS of soft tyranny. He's grounded. Stayed tuned.
