Monday is the day for Lexington. We get to suffer through another weekend of waiting.

I think the cruelest aspect of this is that there seems to be no rational criteria at most of these papers for deciding who stays and who goes.

How demoralizing to know that no matter how good you are at your job that you might be out the door anyway while some brown noser makes the cut.

But even brown nosing can't save you forever. I wonder how many of the smart alecs who have come on here to criticize this blog as good company men and women are now sitting in the street wondering where their job went and why they weren't retained.

7:26,

I agree that there is no rationale for the layoffs. I honestly couldn't tell you why two people in my department were retained and two of our best people were laid off. The product will suffer, though. Maybe that's part of the plan.

Ditto in Raleigh. The FOL's (Friend's of Linda) seem to be fine even though some of them are almost as incompetent as her highness.

No one could compete with the incompetence of Linda. No one. Any word from Raleigh no the features dept. cuts? If there's only the one features writer getting the boot, that means bad things for the Charlotte features crew.

So what papers are officially yet to make their announcements on cuts?

Really? No one could be that incompetent?

How about an editorial board that in a judicial race endorsed the incumbent over a reform candidate. The central campaign issue? The incumbent's alleged record of being drunk on the bench.

Or how about the congressional primary where both candidates were ideological liberals except one had an unblemished record while the other had more baggage than an overseas airliner. Three guesses which one they endorsed.

Or how about the columnist/VP who utter the scientific hypothesis "Negative diversity yields negative productivity." Operationalize those concepts for your field study. He then went on to stun an unknowing nation by revealing that Sen. Obama was black as evidenced by the fact that the Republicans were referring to him as a socialist. His column was terminated, but he continues to be a VP.

Or how about the fact that the most abusive employee of the paper is the "Reader's Rep"? here's a guy who claimed on his blog to answer every email, etc. and when multiple readers exposed the claim as a lie, he just deleted their posts.

He makes angry phone calls to critics, publicly and maliciously attacks them in his blog and columns, makes late night forays into the comments section below his columns and insults and libels those posting. When his misconduct was brought to management's attention his critics were advised to contact the Reader's Rep.

I could go on (and on, and on, and on), but I think The Star's management and some of its favored sons and daughters could give you some competition in that all important "most incompetent" category.

Linda in Raleigh must be quite a beitch. Add the incompetance factor and those in Raleigh must really be blessed!

Maybe it should be FOOLs - Friends Of Our Linda.

Say, what happened down in Wichita. They were supposed to lose 14 positions, but maybe that was by attrition.

So is Charlotte the ONLY newspaper left that still hasn't heard anything?????????
