Kansas City Star subscription rate to go up 15%

Kansas City Star's circulation department just told home delivery subscribers the cost of the Star is going up 15%, according to a report from former KC Star columnist Hearne Christopher. Here are excerpts from the letter:
“I am writing to notify you that a subscription rate increase of 15 percent will go into effect beginning May 1, 2009…” it read. “This is an across-the-board increase for all home-delivery subscribers.”

Oh my gosh!

Stop the press. Did McClatchy Watch make a mistake? They quote KC Conf, but give hat tip to Tony's?

Excerpt:
“The Star’s 15 percent money grab is nearly four times InflationData.com’s 2008 inflation rate of 3.85 percent. It’s more than 60 times 2009’s less than a quarter percent inflation for the combined months of January and February.”

Hearne wrote a good article. I am sure he knows inside information. I am adding his blog to my KC blog reading list.

Good little tidbits of information:
“…The Star struck after-the-fact deals for both Olathe News and Independence Examiner subscribers get free Sunday Stars."

The last rant: Failing papers ‘bring me joy’
brought to you via Allen Mutter

The more the problems of the media mount, the more that newspaper-bashing comments are flowing to this blog. As of today, the media bashers can save themselves the trouble, because I will reject them, one and all.

If you read the comments, many posters did not agree with Mutter. I would think he was surprised. He came off as just another liberal pundit shutting down opinions contrary to his own, and it seemed as if he admitted he prefers to remain inside his own echo chamber. Boring, he will become boring, just like the other one-way conversation blogs.

8:09 What did you expect though. The name, "newsosaur" really does say it all. He could do no less.

I do thank him for the advanced notice. It allowed me to delete his bookmark and it will be a nice place for some of our rabid moonbats to hang out instead of here. They must be euphoric.
