Kansas City Star readers' representative Derek Donovan admits the KC Star has made more than its share of typo goofs lately.I almost never write about typos and other little mistakes in The Star, because I don't think they usually amount to much. I fully appreciate how a bad spelling jumps out at the reader.
But the past few days' papers have had more than their usual fair share. Today's A-2 contains two: A reference to "fourty" buildings in the Today's Top 5 list, and a reference to a woman's "blog sugar" in a photo caption.
The really unfortunate one, though: The main headline on Sunday's Star Magazine cover refers to "Kitch City," which is of course missing an s.
One place I disagree with readers, though, is when someone tells me he or she could easily copy edit the entire paper without flaw every day. It's a much tougher job than some folks realize, especially on deadline. But every typo is regrettable.

"ch-ching"........ If charging subscribers .25 for a copy of the TV guide was not enough.
If asking subscribers to foot a price hike of 15% off their paper was not enough..
Now word out of Kansas City has the Star raising the price of their Sunday paper to $ 2.00 this Sunday.
If you live outside the city area the price currently $ 2.00. Inside the city area the price was $ 1.50 .
I'm waiting to see what other MNI papers follow suit with price hikes.
He doesn't explain the cause because he realizes that editors are necessary. He is not.
This is typical Derek. Admit there's a problem, but fail to assign blame to anything systemic at The Star. It's the tooth fairy sprinkling fairy dust on the keyboards for all we know. I feel your pain (but have no intention of doing anything about it).
And for those who feel we're focusing on minutiae, isn't that what Derek writes about virtually everyday? Must be important to someone if our "Reader's" Rep spends so much time on it.
Amongst con men this is referred to as "cooling out the mark".
I'm sorry, we shouldn't be so negative. Sure, they fired all the copy editors and most of the reporters, but at least we've still got Derek, Mary Sanchez, Barb Shelley, Lewis Diuguid (you know, the socialist, nod, nod, wink, wink) and Merriam Pepper. If you don't say anything of import, who cares how you spell it?

Before you go ranting about spelling errors in The Star, you might want to double-check your spelling of Miriam Pepper's name.
Just a thought.

So misspelling the name of a nobody on a blog is the equivalent of major typos in a product The Star is trying to sell for money? You're the one living in a glass house, come to think of it literally, if you consider the press. What a great investment that was.
And who cares how she spells her name unless it's on her resignation so they can spend the money on someone useful.
