Miserable first-quarter report at the NYT results in selloff

The New York Times swung to an operating loss of $61.6 million in Q1 from an operating profit of $6.2 million in the first quarter of 2008. Investors are unloading shares today. Click here for the details.

I guess investors aren't impressed with the 5 Pulitzers the NYT won yesterday.

MNI reports Thursday, and fingers or teabags in the dike won’t help them this time

If the Sacbee could have just won the 'Stinky' prize instead of the NYT, that would have been a game changer. Elliot and his whores would be the winner of any contest for the insane. Who wouldn't guess that?

Maybe the Chinese? At least they wouldn't have to go through the startup costs, but then again overcoming the reputation....

Dang, Gary Pruitt must be running the NY Times into the ground, too!

As far as I am concerned, the Pulitzer becomes more and more irrelevant the more awards they give out to undeserving recipients.

It's like the Nobel organization giving a prize to Al Gore, for crying out loud: Sure, some of what they do still makes sense, but a lot of it is clearly political and therefore worthless.

They go hand in hand. All it takes to get a nomination is having the very same frauds calling themselves a journalist to give you the nod.

The nobel prize from it's conception was a fraud designed to clean the reputation of the man responsible for more deaths than any in history.

What Nobel did was chemistry; if it wasn't him, it would have been someone else. But what Marx, Lenin, Stalin, and all the other Communists and Marxists have done is create a cancer of the mind. And for that, they are clearly more evil.

Carter's Nobel is proof the award is useless. Giving the Nobel to a snipping and snarking Jimmah Carter was the end of respect for that prize. Every former president has afforded courtesy of not publicly disparaging the president in office, until Carter. He is trying frantically trying to erase his worst president reputation. The MSM media tried their best to destroy President Bush, but history will determine if he did what needed to be done, not a bunch of pink-o journalists. Obama is already called Carter-Lite. I think Carter may be liberated from his curse yet.

Downgrade to Junk is the right option here - right before this stock hits the streets as litter.

New York Times Cash Situation Still Critical (Business Insider)

As expected, the New York Times's business operations began burning cash this quarter (until now, they had remained cash-flow positive).

The company has recently made several wise moves that have postponed the date at which it will run out of cash. But the situation is still critical.

At the current rate of cash consumption, assuming no one-time expenses (highly unlikely), we estimate that the company will max out its current borrowing capacity in 4 quarters.

...11:41, if you read a little about how Teddy Roosevelt maligned Taft, his successor, you'll know that Cahtuh wasn't the first ; nor will he be the last. Lest we forget, the Peace Prize for Yasser Arafat. What crap.
